Yeah, what the others said, and it has been asked before on AD, it is the friends you have from your profile.

Yeah, just like others says in this thread... a + sign is a member who is on your friend's list on your profile.

You will see those + signs next to any of those screen names on the bottom of the homepage of this forum. It is usually located at where you see "Who's online" right above the section of the last 24 hours visit.
