Man Says Male Cat Was Miscarrying, Not A Meal

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The former owner of a live cat police found "marinating" in oil and peppers in the trunk of a car claims he wasn't going to eat the animal.

Gary Korkuc, 51, told a Buffalo TV station the cat, who shelter officials say is a neutered male, had miscarried and he was taking him back to the shelter when police stopped him on a traffic violation earlier this week.

"It had miscarried and that was its blood and I was taking it back over to ASPCA when they stopped me," he said.

Korkuc, who is charged with aggravated animal cruelty, now claims the cat was a female named Kinsey.

Shelter workers put the feline up for adoption, and the cat formerly known as Navarro has a new home, a new name and a new owner.

"He is gentle, he is passive, he is beautiful," said Vicki Dankowski, who named her new pet Oliver.

Shelter worker Barbara Carr said Korkuc presented himself as "a normal human being" when he originally adopted the cat.

But he won't be doing that again anytime soon.

"Even though we're great believers in redemption, this is somebody we've put on our list that we will not adopt to," Carr said of Korkuc.
