Halesowen firms urged to sign up to help deaf people (From Halesowen News)

WORKERS at Halesowen firms are being urged to sign up to give a helping hand to the deaf community.

Award-winning Signs4Life is launching introductory employee in-house courses in sign language to enable them to communicate with people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Tutor Sara Phillips said: “You never know when you will come into contact with a customer, a colleague or member of the public who is deaf or hearing impaired.

“There are over nine million deaf and hard of hearing people registered in the UK and we are working with organisations as varied as supermarkets, activity centres, the prison service, the Red Cross, housing associations, local councils, BT, hotels, care homes, opticians, hospitals, Royal Mail, schools and colleges, travel agents and even photographers, hairdressers and holiday parks.”
