Qualifications:
Earned Doctoral degree Counseling or Clinical Psychology in addition to college level Counseling Center experience. Must attain licensure as a California Psychologist within three years of start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of an APA accredited internship at a University Counseling Center and graduate of an APA accredited Doctoral program in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Applicants will have a demonstrated experience and interest in serving the psychosocial and academic needs of one of the following student groups: Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Students, Middle Eastern Students or other traditionally underrepresented groups on campus. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals is essential.
CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate.
At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
Responsibilities:
Working under the general supervision of the Director of the University Counseling Services (UCS), the SSP AR-I Counselor, as a member of the Division of Student Affairs with faculty rank collaborates with faculty, staff and students to develop and implement appropriate campus/community psycho-educational strategies to increase student academic and personal success. Counselors provide intake assessment, crisis intervention and short-term counseling to a diverse, multicultural student population, presenting with a wide range of psychosocial and developmental concerns. Promotes and offers structured workshops, support and process groups to students. Supervises pre-doctoral interns and contributes to the overall training of paraprofessionals, social work and psychology interns through teaching seminars and mentoring. Designs and implements outreach programs and interventions that support the learning centered mission of the division of student affairs.
