Cheshire fire service launches new on-line system for deaf or hard of hearing residents - Chester Chronicle
RESIDENTS who are deaf, hard of hearing or those with speech impediments will benefit from a new on-line messaging system, launched by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
People will be able to subscribe free of charge to the service and receive regular updates and information on a range of subjects including major incidents occurring near their home or workplace along with information on events and open days via a text message.
The system will mean the service can warn people where incidents are taking place and also give out safety advice and information in a format that deaf residents can access.
Approximately 10% of Cheshire Halton and Warrington's populations have significant hearing loss so this service will allow them to stay in touch with any major incidents the service attends which could have a serious impact on the lives of nearby residents and workers and it is important that we do everything we can to let people know what is going on.
Caroline Jones, e-communications manager for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It is important that we make best use of the technology available and I hope that our deaf residents take a couple of minutes to register for the new text messaging service.”
You can register for the service on the Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service website Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service : Home : Home Page.
To register, people just need to complete an online form and can register up to three post codes for example, the areas in which they live and work or may be the area in which a friend or family member resides.
There is no cost in registering for the service or receiving the text alerts and if people do not have Internet access they can call 01606 868657.
