Hi there,
I'm an author. I'm concerned that there is little representation of the deaf community in fiction novels, and have decided to write a deaf protagonist for my next novel. But I want the character to feel real, and so I am speaking to as many of the deaf community as possible to make sure I get this right. If any of you have the time to help me, I would like to know:
How your interactions with the world differ?
Are there other senses which you lean on?
Can you lip read effectively?
And any other hints or tips to help me paint an authentic deaf character.
