Who Loves Mac (macintosh By Apple)?

I used to be a die hard Android phone user and I used Windows for a long time on my computers. I jokingly ridiculed my best friend about using Apple products since she had an iPhone and a MacBook Air. The last laugh is on me though as now I use a MacBook Air myself and I love it. I like to be...

    Mute and learning ASL

Hi there :) Amongst other things I am autistic and have a muscle condition. I can talk but sometimes it is very difficult. I didn't speak at all until age 6 and have had a ton of speech therapy. I use a device called a Lightwriter (which goes everywhere with me). I think they are quite...

    How are you feeling today?....

I feel horrible because I have a chest infection and high fever after breathing in stomach acid in my sleep 6 days ago but I'm happy that I went to Auslan class and met a really cool new friend who is on the autistic spectrum so understands some of what I struggle with my autism.

    Why are you deaf?

I had many severe head injuries from domestic violence as a young child, one of them landing me in hospital for weeks because something tore and the fluid around my brain leaked out my nose. They say my hearing loss is from that although there is probably a genetic component as my brother's loss...

hard of hearing and social skills

Me too. I end up asking them to spell it. Last night I was on the phone with someone from my Auslan class and he was telling me his Facebook and email. It included numbers and one of them was "6". I had to ask him over and over and I thought he was saying "x". He ended up describing the Auslan...

nursing needs of deaf community? nursing student research paper

I'm often in hospital and I find some staff are sensitive to my hearing loss and others seem not to care whether I understand them or not. Recently I had an argument with the coordinator of one of the biggest home nursing providers here about their treatment of deaf and HoH clients. I...

Do you use interpreter for psychiatrist

I'm interested in this question as next year I will start training as a counsellor. I will work with hearing people too but eventually when my hearing gets bad enough I want to work with deaf people and I'm wondering how much of a market there would be for a counsellor who signs. I would look...

Has this happened to anyone else.

I frequently get treated like I'm intellectually disabled particularly because of the type of walking frame I use. People show me how to use elevators and so on.

Has this happened to anyone else.

I've been known to turn around and tell them to go watch a medical drama on tv if they're so nosy. It just depends on what mood I'm in. Once a table full of people were gawking at my nebuliser which I had to use because laughing gave me asthma in a pizza restaurant. I turned my pizza box...

Has this happened to anyone else.

I use a gutter arm walking frame and braces the full length of both legs and people stop and stare at me as they walk past but I try to ignore them when possible. It's easier when I'm walking with someone and I just keep my eyes on the ground in front of me but if I'm alone I get very self...
