    CI blog for my daughter

Thanks for all the support Deafdyke. Our EI adviser told us that she will have to wait until she is 2 before she can enter the pre-school. Our daughter is very visually responsive, so this is why we are choosing to add ASL to her learning. It never hurts to add more skills to your child's...

    CI blog for my daughter

The school will focus on language development and they also teach ASL to all their students. We may also send our non-deaf son there also so he can take advantage of the ASL and be with his sister.

    CI blog for my daughter

Hi. We have been so busy to even check on this thread. So the update on EI is that Kairi will continue to see her weekly EI adviser. She will be enrolled into a pre-school that specializes in deaf child language development. Luckily for us it is right in our neighborhood. The surgery date...

FDA seeks to fine AB 2.2 mil

Link Found this article in Yahoo news. This scares me since we have ordered the AB processors for my daughter's upcoming surgery. We may need to rethink our choice since we still have time to change our minds and switch to Cochlear. Not going to jump to any conclusions till I can do...

I have one more question for you. How did you get the doctors to agree to do the bilateral implants at one time. We have requested this and there is some resistance. Can you give me some hints on what you did to get them to agree.

    scars

The only reason I see that anyone would even notice the scar would be in class where there is someone right behind you or in a line somewhere. Some of my friends from school had very noticeable scars running through the center of their hair and no one had a problem with it. Don't even notice it...

    Wearing Glasses and CI

Thanks for all the info. We are just crossing our fingers that we won't have to put anymore hardware on the little girls head in the future. Her teeth are straight so far. :fingersx:

    Wearing Glasses and CI

Thanks for this info. I would have never thought of such an approach. I would prefer this for my daughter even if she wasn't wearing glasses.

    Wearing Glasses and CI

Just found out my daughter is very near sided, so will have to wear glasses from now on. Just wondering about other users experience on how to do this best when wearing a CI. My daughter will have an AB processor. We will have both the Platinum and Harmony. For now she will be using the...

    CI blog for my daughter

Hi Drew's Dad. I really appreciate the reply. Honestly, I don't think we have been very aggressive in the process and have just been letting the process control the events. We are probably doing a minimum of what we should be doing. All your help over the last few days, and reading your blog has...

    CI blog for my daughter

Thanks for all the info Jag. Seems like we have to have a long talk with our EI adviser on Tuesday when she comes to visit again. We were not aware that our daughter should be attending the classes prior to CI, we thought it was only for her benefit after she got the implant. I guess it seems...

    CI blog for my daughter

I found out that NW Regional has already planned a lot of learning events for my daughter after she gets her CI. At minimum she will be attending a weekly class to help her with her hearing and speech development. I will definitely be looking into additional ways to help. Skullchick, I will...

    CI surgery cost and insurance

The doctors have ruled out the hearing aids. Her response is very minimal and only at or above 90db. Fortunately no one along the process has questioned her need for the CI. She has Connexin 26 and is in perfect health to be a candidate for the CI. Everyone we have worked with has been happy to...

    CI surgery cost and insurance

Just got off the phone with Kaiser. They assured us that our Max out of pocket will be $1,500. This lifts a huge weight off our shoulders. Looks like we will want to do both ears this year to take advantage of this.

    CI surgery cost and insurance

Hi, I am just trying to compare the out of pocket cost for CI surgery based on insurance companies and get a feel for what my out of pocket expenses will be. I have Kaiser for my daughter and they say they cover bilateral CI surgeries. They will cover 90% of the cost. They gave me an...
