If you were to meet a genie...

a genie has their powers for the service of others, since this is a power for yourself it would not apply........but if you were to be a genie just conjure a potion to cure yourself of being a genie but retain your powers, afterall if you can imagine it it's yours. Wanting immortality isn't...

    Newbie Needs Advice

The next time some one tells you this give them a swift kick in the crotch. I am quickly getting tired of people that don't think before giving an opinion from a position of authority. This would be like telling a parent not to get a wheel chair and just make their kid get around anyway, when...

If you were to meet a genie...

The inate magical ability of conjuration. The ability to conjure basically means that I could make anything, real or imaginary, appear for me as if created from air. I am sure you all could imagine what you could do with the ability to create things from nothing. A house, car, private island for...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I don't get the vertigo at the same time as the echoish ear. I do get some vertigo from time to time although it is rare and lasts for just a few seconds. I am not familiar with the variations of meniers so I may need to look it up to see how much of it fits. I have an appt with a new ent in a...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I am sure stories like yours are equally inspiring. While those of us with late deafness have lost something that we always knew, in a way it can be a blessing. Yes we will never be able to hear the voices of our loved ones AGAIN, we may know the sound of our baby giggling but will not have...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

yeah pretty much. She didn't think that learning asl now while I still have some hearing was more important than spending time at home those few nights a week. My wife has her own disability, chronic pisspoorpriorplanning. She tends to not think about the planning needed to complete a task. If...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I am not new to AD but I have not been active on here in a long time. If I remember right this thread wasn't even around when I stopped visiting the site. I've been busy with a new kid, knee injuries, and depression so my hearing problems took a back seat. I figured I would re-introduced myself...

    Deaf community in Tampa fl

I have not been on AD in a long time as my attention has been drawn to other medical issues. I was nagged by my wife into getting my hearing checked and it turned out that what I thought was selective hearing was actual hearing loss. My first audiogram showed mild-moderate loss indicative of...

That sucks that you had to fight for them. I found out about the voc rehab program in florida in the begining of NOV. and I go in on friday (DEC. 14th) to make the final decision on color and to get the final fitting, no mold though since I am going with an open style. So about a month and a...

Hello Question about HA's from a newbie

It is my understanding that whether you own the business or just work for a company it still applies if you need to be able to hear to complete your job functions. So depending on what is needed in order to keep your business going it may still apply. They were very broad when dealing with me...

Hello Question about HA's from a newbie

Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services I live in florida but I figured alabama might have the same type of system. It's the vocational rehabilitation program. If you work or are trying to find work (even part time) they pay for a ton of stuff. I just got approved for 2 hearing...

What brand of hearing aids do you wear?

In about 2-3 weeks when the voc rehab approves (which they have in the past, I just have to fill out the paper work) I will have 2 phonak savia micro BTEs with the watch remote, fm system with fm boot and neck loop. They will be a clear black. As soon as the state approves (next week is the...

    American Sign Language: learning

You definately want to avoid the big cities then. If London is the most busy place your used to the places like miami, new york, chicago, los angeles, etc. will all seem overwhelming at first. My personal opinion is to avoid california all together simply based off of how strict alot of thier...

    American Sign Language: learning

Lifeprint is great. And if you want to learn without having to be online for the website you can order a cd with all the content on it for $10 ( what is that like 3-4 quid nowadays). I actually bought the disc and then transfered it to a usb thumb drive so that it's easier to carry around...

    Free HA

Phonak - Savia Art Which type do you have? I am looking at the smaller ones on the right with thin tube and open fitting. I like all the options it has and the auto switching from one program to the next. Also the pocket controls for adjusting both aids at once is cool. Then some models...

    Free HA

That's right I said free. I live in florida and just became aware of state funding that pays for your HAs through a vocational rehab....which just means if you need to hear to work your in. If you have insurance then this will supplement that so you have $0 cost and if you have no insurance...

    appropriate or not?

I agree, some people may not feel comfortable, and had it been a busy supermarket cashier or something similar I wouldn't have thought about it, but this is in a halmark store that had maybe 5 other people (including employees) in the entire store. This is why I wouldn't figure it to be issue...

so bte HAs have come a long way since the 90's

I just had my appt with the audiologist for a HA consult, going over what would work for me and which aids did what. I am still in shock at the size....not at how big but rather at how small. I remember back in highschool when I would see a few kids with BTEs and they were big. This image...

    appropriate or not?

I wasn't too happy when I first heard about how much the HAs cost and how much my insurance covered.......but then I kept hearing about how other insurances don't do jack, needless to say that picked my spirits up a few notches.
