    Considering an implant?

Well, you said it yourself, Deafdyke. Even hearing people have trouble understanding some people. Its the same for me. The ones I have trouble understanding, in general so does everyone else. I've done experimental testing at the University of Arizona in which the sentences were done under...

    Considering an implant?

With the CI on my audiogram is in the 15-24dB range. My speech recognition scores on sentences in quiet is 100%. My phone sentence recognition is 100%. My sentences in noise is 70% and monosyllabic word scores are around 80%. According to my audiologist, I'm "not missing much more than...

    Banned Cochlear Implants?

Oh for god's sake...you're so threatened by these statistics you're going to attack the integrity of the questions? That's pretty pathetic and only exposes the ignorance behind such statements. Deafies will attack ANY statement or scientific study that shows any benifit with the CI whatsoever...

    Banned Cochlear Implants?

It wasn't at all biased. It was an objective survey using patients, audiologist and statistics from the FDA and the Deafness Research foundation and the NAD. This was an actual study- not based on the people you know. I don't think you can cite statistics based on "the people I know." If...

    Banned Cochlear Implants?

Umm..maybe you should just read her post again. It's pretty clear I think....

    cochlear implants

Very good point. But for those who say they never wished they got it in the first place, that's fine. But at least they got the chance to try it. They don't like, they don't have to wear it. Simple as that. They HAD the full range of choices and that is what they chose.

    Banned Cochlear Implants?

I don't think she is saying that at all. I think she is saying exactly what you are saying, that we SHOULDN'T ban it, because some people might want it...

    cochlear implants

That's the way things used to be in the U.S., and you'll still find pockets of that occasionally, but on a whole, we've progressed beyond that. Parents are presented with all options, including signing.

    cochlear implants

And I wish that some Deaf people would wake up and realize the beauty of being Hearing and the ever so awesome (and large) Hearing culture, and tell Deaf people that it is OKAY to be hearing, if they so choose, and for a child that is implanted early and grows up hearing, that that is OKAY, too...

    cochlear implants

I AM Deaf...I don't consider it a bad thing- I like being Deaf with a CI. And I think you are misreading my argument. It makes sense for the parent to choose- I never said any different. I'm pointing out the illogic behind those who say they want their child to have all choices available to...

    cochlear implants

Well, once agian....wouldn't it be better to have them implanted and let then have the best hearing they can, THEN when they get older they can chart the pros and cons of having an implant or not? Doesn't really make sense the other way around. Waiting till they are old enough may mean they...

    cochlear implants

That would be aided. 70dB loss aided and a 40% or less speech discrimination aided. You're right, it's not for conductive loss, but for sensoneural loss, which is the most common form of hearing loss. Insurance companies have fought it tooth and nail, but the results have been too good for...

    cochlear implants

No, I meant that for children with a mild/moderate loss, hearing aids are used instead of a CI, but for severe/profound loss a CI is recommended instead of hearing aids. "I was under the impression that only a very small percentage of people with severe/profound losses qualified as "deaf...

    cochlear implants

That's generally what DOES happen if a child is born with a mild-moderate loss. But for severe/profound losses, a hearing aid doesn't always give them the full range of sounds for development. In that case, a CI would be better, giving them more options.
