CI surgery is not cosmetic as it does not improve ones appearance..on the other hand I see the surgery as one that greatly improves ones quality of life
by improving or restoring the sense of hearing :D

The ignorance and lack of knowledge about Cochlear implants by some of you is scary. I can't imagine having such strong views against something that I know so very little about. Maybe some of you should avoid passing such judgements until you have researched it completley.
I don't think anyone or anyone's opinions are ridiculous, It is ridiculous to say CI surgery is brain surgery..
However..I respect all of your opinions and I hope that you all respect mine. This world would be a pretty boring place if we all agreed all the time.
I am off to get ready for...
Where did I say that you said anything about brain surgery? I said your name when I was responding to where you said it was "strange" that I signed to my baby.. and I am far from close minded..but just as you are going to argue your points about how you feel..I am allowed to do the same..and I...
Just because my baby was deaf I wasn't going to sit him in a chair and not communicate with him even at two months old. He couldn't hear me talk to him , so I signed to him...geez what a STRANGE concept huh Cheri??
And once again..CI surgery is nothing even remotley close to brain...
I am sorry to hear about yoru friend's unpleasant experience. Luckily the younger a person is the easier their recovery is in most cases. My son had no problems whatsoever.
I respect your opinion in that you wouldn't implant a child and hopefully that is never a decision you have to make...
Sorry to you, it is not brain surgery or even remotely close :wiggle: and I would hardly call the surgery traumatic to my son anyways seeings as he was smiling in the recovery room eating poipsicles and bouncing around in his bed the next morning watching The Wiggles
Your right...
And again, I do not have a problem with anyone's point of views on anything, otherwise I never would have posted, but If someone is going to put words in my mouth that I didn't say or start off by saying that my story "doesn't match up" I am going to correct them. If you or anyone else doesn't...
First of all the surgery required with a Ci is NOT "Brain surgery" or even remotley close to "brain surgery". I would ave expected someone who had the surgery to know a little more about the surgery itself..but anyways..
I would like to add that #1 my son had no benefit from hearing aids. He is...
Loomis it sounds like you a wonderful parent who is doing what you think is best for your son. I am sure your desicion to have him implanted wasn't an easy one yet you went ahead with it because you feel it was the best thing for him.
