Hi Folks.... I totally missed introducing myself & went straight for the awesome topics. I am cochlear implant wearer of 6 years and wore hearing aids for 25 years prior. I actually still have a high powered hearing aid in my left ear with the CI in my right. My mom is deaf, as well...

Correct...I went slowly deaf throughout my life.

I'm a successful CI wearer referred to this forum by another deaf friend of mine. Is someone feeling threatened? If so, I'd be happy to chat with them....

OK I hope I am able to opine to you & you'll get a chance to read this. I am from the Richmond area & I hear folks from NoVa say the same thing that you do. I believe this is a mapping issue. Please go to VCU audiology dept & get Sean to do your mappings. In telling other folks this same thing...

If you are going to get implanted, do it right. Please get the best device out there. 2 of the devices have been recalled numerous times & I talk to people all the time that are so very disheartened with those same devices!

Life with my CI is the same as with a hearing aid in regards to swimming, bathing, etc. The biggest change is in what I hear now. So....no, it does not stop me from doing anything as that I used to do before being installed. It has, however, opened my world back up to doing more out in the world.
