Duray,
I know that DOJ ADA offices only file if it is important, that’s why I said it is your LAST resort. Because the ADA Law can be interpreted in different ways, the STATE not Federal ADA/Deaf Commission offices can contact these businesses and educate them on the correct...

I do agree that the Deaf Community needs to advocate for themselves first. Many Deaf clients think hearing people all know the law and know about interpreters. They should try to inform the hearing business first. If that doesnt work, then they should contact the offices I mentioned.

Listen Duray,
Yes ADA is a law. Many states also ADA offices, such as in Florida they have the ADA Working Group (ADAWG), which is appointed by the governor. You can call and ask about the law or file a complaint. The complaint process takes a long time. The Federal ADA office can't...
I worked for a Deaf Services office and closely with my state ADA office for several years. A lawyer should your last resort. The lawyer will charge you money and require a deposit before they even help you. Contact your local Deaf Services office. The people know a lot about ADA laws and can...
Sorry to say...but it is NOT discrimination. You took the test just like evryone else and failed. When they reviewed the scores, they did not make their choice bc of an LD or bc you are Deaf...they went by the scores. I would recommend go and talk to the person who said you could override the...
The truth is that Gallaudet is very good for hearing people specializing in fields such as interpreting. As far as a Bachelors degree for the Deaf is much different. A BA from Gally is about equal to a high school diploma. I have worked with quite a few Deaf clients who went to school at Gally...
I am curious if anyone had any experience as a staff interpreter at Gallaudet? It looks like staff interpreters have very good benefits, tuition assistance, pro development, etc. It seems like the pay is good also? I notice they are always looking for people. Is it because there are so many...
how about when Deaf clients dont sign clear themselves. It is expected that interpreters sign clearly, but some clients sign lazy or unclear and demand the interpreters to catch it. It is a 2 way street. Also, when Deaf clients sign just fragments of the message and expect the interpreters to...
Of course they tell all of you that you talk normal, they don't want to hurt your feelings! Hearing people will lie sometimes just to spare your feelings. There are many Deaf people that can speak well enough that the hearing people can understand them....but Deaf people CANNOT talk normal like...
I have seen and coached many Deaf Athletes. I myself was coached mostly by hearing coaches. I have noticed most Deaf Athletes DO NOT get the best coaching and DO NOT reach the potential as their hearing opponents. A big part is the communication factor. Many FEMALE interpreters do not interpret...
Men AND Women should be on a strength and cardio program. Many times women ignore this because they think they will get too much muscle, which is incorrect. Women only get too big if they take hormones or steroids. Strength program will help you lose weight as much as cardio. After a strength...
WRESTLING IS THE SPORT TO WATCH!!! Cejudo, Askren, Cormier should do good in Freestyle.
But the Greco Team will KILLLL the Russians! They are returning World Champs! Mango will SLAM everyone!
The soccer will be interesting too.
Well...Grummer seems like quite the a-hole. Again, he makes other Deaf people look bad bc of his views. He is the typical grass roots Deaf person who listens to his group of buddies, and spouts off whatever kind of nonsense they tell him. Be a leader not a follower. Without any facts or...
Hey toddsouth....it depends who you ask. High Visual Deaf would most times prefer the interpreter bc their English is at the level of K-2 grade. There are plenty of Deaf with good English, but there are also many with such bad English skills that they don't really understand...
