I wonder how many of you use hearing aids, and why?
I have 2 and have to wear them as I always have been in hearing world only.

I did have them. I had to use them to get by in the world and they worked ok for years. But the new more powerful ones just hurt my ears. I'm much happier with my implant now. :)

I have two digital hearing aids cuz all my environment is hearing (except dad who is hoh ). I want to get a CI soon

I used a hearing aid for a while, a couple years back. I've since stopped using it because my hearing loss has progressed and it's not as helpfull any more... but it's more complicated thatn that;

I had only one hearing aid because I've been 100% deaf on one side for most of a decade. I began looking into getting a hearing aid for my "good" ear because I felt that it would be the ideal assistive listening device for my situation.
I ended up getting a Sonovation LogicomXP. The most usefull of the features was the frequency shift/compression. My audiogram goes all over the place and has a sharp drop after 2khz. The hearing aid shifted sounds above 2khz, down to a frequency I could hear. This was pretty nice while it lasted, I could hear lots of environmental sounds I hadn't been able to hear since childhood. Also many consonants were back, but they were mechanical zombie consonants. Over the course of the next year or so after getting the hearing aid, my hearing loss progressed and the peak I had at 2khz leveled out. I don't get much utility from the hearing aid any more and I haven't really worn it for about a year now. Some time soon I'll donate it to the National Boystown research hospital.

So, that's a fairly long explanation of why I used to wear a hearing aid but donw now.

i have one bte in my left ear, don't get much help with one in the right. i've had one since i was about 10 years old and before that i had an FM for a couple years. the model has changed over the years though because my hearing loss is progressive; currently i'm wearing a phonak supero but i haven't purchased it, it's a loaner. I'm waiting for the new technology blah blah whatever it is.

From when I was four years old, I worn hearing aids. I stopped wearing one in my left because I lost all residual hearing and it was pointless to wear one. I continue to wear one in my right ear to this day!

I have a hearing aid in my right ear only. After I became deaf at the age of 2, it took a bit of time before I finally had hearing aids. My parents just wanted for me to be able to hear, so they did everything they could to help me. Not only to hear, but to communicate too.

I quit wearing the left hearing aid in 4th grade as I have never heard a single sound in the left ear, and hearing aid in left was useless. But continued to wear one in the right, even today. It's just "normal" for me to wear a hearing aid, to hear what is going on around me (even though I don't always understand what is going on).

I have one on my right ear and planning on getting a 2nd one for the other ear next year when I become eligible for my insurance to pay for it.

I wear it whether I am in the Deaf or hearing world. I like to hear environmental sounds especially music.

I have just one in my right ear currently as my left hasn't caught up with the right yet (hopefully it stays that way) lol ..but i wear a Phonak Una bte in my right ear and also use a smartlink fm system for school when i need it

I'm HAaidless as they were either lost or stolen. I am hoping to get new ones soon! *crosses fingers*
Shel, you're so lucky.......................very few insurances cover aids!

Two Oticon HA for me. Still working OK. At least I can tell when somebody's mad at me, I guess. :giggle:

No, I haven't use both HAs for over 20 years now. It doesn't bother me really.

The reason why I quit to wear HAs is because healthcare quit to cover the cost for HA batteries. I can't acheive to pay expensive batteries for HA but I prefer to spend money on important things like children's future, foods, drink, trips, etc over HA batteries.

I used to wear hearing aid for 25 years in my right ear, I never use it on my left since it already fully profoundly deaf. My hearing aid work well in my right hear that I can hear well on. So as time passed as I got older, my right ear was getting worst losting more hearing. So, went for C.I. and it work great. No regret!

Hearing aids batteries are cheap ! I only spend about 5 us$ a month for batteries of my digital hearing aids.(only six batteries a month ... five dollars a month).. I don't think it is high cost..plus I work at a low paid job

Not really, Batteries here is not cheap when you use 3 675 size batteries for C.I. and only last 2 today. So, for 8 batteries cost 17 buck due to brands.

:hmm: you are talking about CI batteries. I was speaking of ha battery. One battery lasts for 10 days in my hearing aid.
