What's your opinion on couples buying a house...

... before or after marriage?

I know someone who is getting married and is planning on buying a house together. One of them finished college and the other hasn't.

Should they go ahead and buy a house even though they aren't married yet?

What about other people... other scenarios?

What do you think? Why? Why not?

I would like buy house after i get married or before married no matter for me because i wanted nice styles houses like european or non-europeans whatevers of styles houses.

mostly married people always purchase house after got married first or before married that choice who gifts from families or friends they cant afford for buy that home!

im really wanted get house before married or i can wait till after get married first but we have wait and see.

if my boyfriend and me would agree to buy that house in American or his hometown in England but my mom wanted me stay in American for lives! but we can travels between USA and UK homes but we cant afford for buy that house because my boyfriend works in factory so he told me he can save money for moves USA in years or futures they he can married me in years or months but im not sure when i will married him but im current dating with him his name James

For me, as a young gentleman, I got plenty of time, and I would depend on the wife/girlfriend whether to buy a house prior to marriage or after marriage.. I'd like to have a nice, comfy home rather get a fancy house!

I'd prefer to buy a house after marriage as long we agree to it and have stable jobs and all. :)

Depends on the execellent salary, like permenant postions is the excellent way of getting jobs and benefits!

If before marriage, it is ok to buy house only under your name, not gf or finance. That way, if break up you still own the house. But if both name are on it, it is gonna to be ugly battle that you don't want to get involved.

Here in New Yawk, if you buy house under your name not your gf/bf or spouse name (EVEN after marriage), then you can make the final decision, not gf/bf nor even spouse can not do anything. I am not sure about other states, hey that does not mean that I won't let my gf decide. Even this house is 100% under my name, still she owns half of it anyway.

Don't matter but If they are both have money to down payment and go for it ..

Because pricing low on a house markets :):)

No wonder, down here in Australia the rent has sky rocketed and the interest rises for the mortagages is so damn expensive. I feel, I shall move to america to buy some cosy nice home, but despite as an australian

It would be depend on each person/couple. DHB and I aren't married and bought this house. It is worth it to own a house than blowing our money off to landlord. So we know where our money goes to. Some people wanted to buy a house before get married and some wanted wait.

Well, I don´t have any opinion on this.

Depend on couple´s salary and life either they can achieve to do something to postive themselves etc. to make sure that their dream should be fulfulling.

My hubby & I rented one bedroom apartment for 3 years before bought a land to build our dream house.

I personally believe it would be best if 2 were married 1st. Because before marriage, anything can happen.for 2 to buy a house together is a tremendous responsibility and commitment. if they were not married, and have their house in both of their names if anything were to happen before they got married then decided to go their separate ways, it would be an ugly battle in court and long and drawn out. It's better if they both waited and were married and made the decision as a unit.

Some people would wish to experience on how they rent a house, some one rather not to blow their money on rent for a long time, like my friend used to be has rented their house who was owned under his wife's parents for 9 and half years.

Everyone has their different choices, I assume.

Welcome move here America ;) :) :giggle:

After marriage and after debts are paid off. One can buy a house in his/her own name if it is okay with other so to avoid losing money thru rent. Those apt rents can be high.

Down here, it is already high due to interest rates, ugh!
