TV as we know it will become obsolete well before 2265. We'll be consuming TV in a much different way soon (we already are really). TV in general, the act of watching fiction, news, shows, movies, etc.... That'll take significantly longer if it ever truly goes away completely...

On Star Trek, I'd argue that TV evolved into the Halodeck. It's basically the same thing, but interactive if you want it to be. Maybe a merge of gaming and TV. So people who say it became obsolete on Star Trek are wrong.

The concept of "Television" wouldn't be totally obsolete- as Nic mentioned- holodecks and similar virtual reality may become dominant sooner than 2265 (or the 23rd century). The physical form of TV (aka the boxy square thing you sit on the table or attach to the wall or something)- that will probably become obsolete or very rare just like CRT type tvs are today (we still have at least 2 or 3 of those here).

:laugh2:OMG what will happen with Coranation street East enders and for you folks Kardashians:laugh2:

mis-fortune they on over here now..I have never seen one don't intend to.What have they done to be so famouse.

TV will become obsolete? Of course but when? not like 2265. People wear glasses will have dual purpose, prescription and streaming video (no more saying "TV")? it's possible, or everybody will use computer (pc, tablet, laptop etc) will start watching the show and everyone will have their own "channel" or show. Those for sure will start becoming popular before hologram.

That's almost already here! https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-hololens/en-us

And then for more immersion, full VR... Think about having VR goggles on for a plane ride, simulate a iMax theater in your plane seat... *drools*

The world, it's-a-changin' and I like it!

The hologram room can be very dangerous. Games will be more realistic. look what almost happened to picard.

There was also that time Data overrode the safety protocols and created the Sherlock Holmes holo-program where Moriarty almost killed everyone and destroyed the enterprise... Could definitely be dangerous.

Nic this can be a really good tool for docs. No longer you have to lie on a MRI or catscan. Docs can use glasses to look inside your body with glasses. He can pinpoint whats wrong with you. And he can operate on you with glasses to remove a part of tumor or a cancer blood cell inside you.

Currently, you'd still have to lie in the MRI (personally, I like it, it's relaxing). The glasses can be used to view the scan in 3d though and zoom and tilt and what not better than a 2d screen.

They don't yet let us look inside people without something like an MRI too :)

That'd be a little creepy, but also really cool... glasses that let you see inside people.

The applications for VR and AR are going ot be awesome, I'm super excited about this technology. The MS halolens should be releasing any time now too. They said shortly after Windows 10.

Nic also open heart surgery might be a thing in the past. With these glasses they can unclogg your arteries and we will have fewer heart attacks. Also look in blood flow in your body if you have stiffness they can unclogg that and then your blood will flow normal again.

They predicted the future before anything else... They had cell phones back then and now we do... amazing isnt it... there was actually a story about star trek and the technology that came from that show ( fantasy to life )

Televisions will phase out in favor of monitors in future. Only one different thing is television has tuners built-in while monitors doesn't. However televisions will phased out when television networks are move on to Internet as main way to reach the viewers. Cable bills aren't welcomed very well in customer mailboxes.

Right now, most of television manufacturers are experimenting on foldable paper-thin monitors now. One day we can hang our televisions on wall easy like if they are posters.
