It's really slick outside today.... there's black ice all over the place, and one particular area nearly had me blow out my left knee-- that was scary, but I managed to recover just in time, and avoid a complete blowout of my knee. Don't think I'll be going anywhere this Tuesday if it's like this. :(

It's getting bad here too in my city in Massauchettes , we're getting rain and it turning to ice as soon as it hit the steps. I am glad I tested the steps before trying to walk downstairs. My dog ,Marty wanted no part of it and refused to go out. Smart dog!

Smart dog indeed. I needed supplies, so waiting wasn't an option, and I'm wishing I had. At least I made it back home safely without any major injuries.

I try to keep up with the weather report , if I think it's going to be really bad for a few days I try to get to the store before the storm hit. You have to in my small city , we only have two grocery stores and when people hear the word storm in the winter they run to the stores and clean it out .

There used to be a Dominick's store I could go to if I needed supplies, but they shut down for good yesterday, and the nearest store I can get supplies at now is a mile away, and with all the slickness, it makes it a dangerous adventure, and one I don't particularly care for, but I am all right until the end of the week (hopefully, anyways).

I'm already dreading my commute to work tomorrow....:(

You live around the area? It's slick around here in Rogers Park. A LOT of black ice, and one area in particular at the intersection of Clark and Farwell has REALLY slick ice (cause there's a car wash there, that's why), and that's what nearly did me in.

I live in Massachusetts in work in New Hampshire. The weather here is just getting ugly. It's going to be a messy commute and worse as the week goes on. I wish it were spring....

Don't we all? Or at least warm enough to do something worthwhile. It's cold here, and slick. I was originally planning to run some errands this Tuesday, but I may be forced to hold off on that until it's safe enough to venture outside.

Shoes with spikes wouldn't be much help around here.... I live between three hills, and it would just make things more treacherous. One of these hills is really STEEP, and is a long way down, so yeah, it's not much help (that's my opinion only).

For backpacking only, sure, but I'm usually pushing anywhere between 35-50 pounds of food in a cart, so a pole wouldn't do me much good, unless it had something to stablize me in the event I were to slip. I'm not trying to be unrealistic, but there are dangers to shopping and pushing a heavy load of food on slick surfaces. If I had a large bag for carrying that much food in, it shouldn't be a problem.

Ice can definitely take out a knee and I know personally a wave can too,:) OUCH!!! We need rain here badly. I wish it was colder so I could wear sweaters and scarfs. High all this week is upper 60's.

That's why I try to be observant of my surroundings and see the best way to get to where I need to go. Much to my misfortune, the path I took was really slick, but the path near my home wasn't that bad, but the ones near Clark were far worse, and much more dangerous. The one I took going to the store wasn't too bad, but the one I took going back home was the one that nearly did me in, and by law, car washes are supposed to have the sidewalks clear of any liquids for safe walking. Had I blown out my knee, I would've had probable cause to file a lawsuit.

Are you stealing carts from the grocery store?

j/k :giggle:

No, I pay for them. Yes, I knew you were joking. It's just that I like to be prepared in events like this, cause sometimes I end up being shorthanded when a major weather event comes around. That's why I have concerns about this week's weather and the dangers I'd be facing.

My daughter was in New Hampshire tonight and she said the driving was messy getting back to Massachusetts. You should allow yourself extra time to get to work Monday. I hated it when I had to work during an ice storm , my company said during one ice storm us health aides made houses calls than the post office. We had to use our own cars. One health was in a horrible auto accident on the job and was killed.

I am sorry for that health aide's family. That wasn't what they wanted, and I feel deeply sorry that she died on the job. I hope they know she died doing what she loved to do, which was taking care of others, but I hope that they aren't doing this anymore?

Do you have a neighbor who drives that could pick up some necessities for you?
