I know some people don't like public transportation, and some prefer to drive themselves, but if you didn't have a car, and you had limited options for travel, which would you take?

I take the CTA every now and then, but I mainly take the Metra, and as for long distance travel outside of IL (if I ever do it, that is), well, I can't fly, and I haven't ridden Greyhound in 25 years, so Amtrak would be the logical choice.

What about you? What's your choice for long-distance travel? Amtrak, bus, or airplane?

Wouldn't we all? No messing with US Border and Customs, and ICE.

lol, no. Im not in US, I'm in New Zealand, but seriously,
planes are ok but long as weather is good, bumpy rides are frightening as hell. Buses very cheap and how good bus trip depends on how good the driver is... trains because you get to see all the scenary but it is pricy over here so overall, I prefer planes

Here in the US, Amtrak rides tend to go for a lot cheaper than an international plane ride. Heck, a plane ride from Chicago to NYC costs way more than an Amtrak ticket for the same cities. As for Greyhound-- a regular round-trip ticket for IL costs about $80, while I can get a round-trip ticket on the Amtrak between $37-$50 for IL, depending on the season, and if I get it early enough, but if the train seats are filling up, it'll cost more.

if i travel in states id be on the Ducati all over the place...

That's an airline, right, or a car? And you're more than welcome to visit the US anytime-- just make sure you have the proper paperwork with ya.

So far so good, but I have a fear of being in the air-- that, and helicopters.

I'm not one with patience unless I can control some aspect of it like driving. Turbulence never bothers me in flight, flying in Florida storms really wind me up! :P

Precisely why I prefer the rails-- no motion sickness with turbulence.

If I was to pick between one of the 3, I would probably pick train. Maybe plane. I would want to pick the one with best chance of having motor that is turbocharged. My order would be:

1. plane
2. train
3. bus

Locomotives have turocharged engines. Thought you knew that already.

Hello? Metra and Amtrak? They have 'em. Can't operate without 'em.

Megabus s price is very cheap. Try to ride it. See links.

Public transportation is no no for me due to anxiety.

I prefer to drive, but for far travel, I just want to take fly and get out as soon as possible.

If I could fly, I would, but not only do I have a fear of it, it's also risky-- there's a good chance the takeoff could permanently damage what hearing I have left.
