Anyone have worsening tinnitus as your hearing has gotten worse? I am severe profound but I just recently noticed my tinnitus has gotten worse..and I didn't think that was possible as it was already pretty freaking loud to begin with! wtf...ugh:roll:

Yup. I had that problem when I was wearing a HA. As my hearing worsened and HA's did nothing to improve it I discontinued use. It took some time to adjust, as sound was no longer blasting through my head. With this change came good things. No more tinnitus.

Yes, on my left side, where I have a lot of nerve damage from illness.

I don't wear a hearing aid on that side.

I've been experiencing it recently too. It could be from allergy, viral infection or hearing loss. It's been accompanied by some vertigo. I have had it at times when I have lost hearing and also when I have not. Hopefully, this time it is the latter and I will not lose any more hearing. At this point, I think it is viral because while cutting out certain foods has helped it has not gone away.

I know what you are going through, it's rough.

No, thank God, but I notice I have the problem bad when the pollen count is high....

Sorry AliciaM I am right there with you. 24/7 never, ever stops. Sounds like an air compressor, firecrackers and a radio station out of tune. I wish you the best of luck and if you figure out what helps let me know please!!!!

With or without my hearing aid, I get tinnitus every day, ugh! I just try to tune it out. Some days are louder than others but not much I can do other than try to trick my brain to other sounds.

Yep....been tricking my ol' noggin' many years, as I've had tennitus for so long, I've lost count of the years....I'm totally deaf, so it's not an easy task, and concentration is hard....

That has to be even more of a challenge for you *hugs*

So true as I am totally deaf also. Apparently there are many levels of tinnitus and I just happen to have what every medical proffesion I have seen calls "so not normal". It really makes concentrating on anything unbearable when it sounds like someone is shooting firecrackers, air compressor and much more right into your brain. Sleeping is a joke cos it seldom happens for any length of time. As some might know, when you are settling in for the night, it just gets worse.

Also since the noises are so LOUD, I speak LOUD all the time. I am constantly being told to lower my voice.

Not trying to sound all negative here, just letting people know that there are many, many levels of tinnitus and to some it is a never ending battle.

Well, I see my ENT doctor in October for a check-up...(and BTW, there has been no drainage from either ear since the last surgery, which I'm so thankful for)....just shooting pains off and on....so I'm going to ask my doctor about tennitus and see if he has or knows of anything "new" for it.....Also have cut back drastically on my caffeine, seems to help somewhat, but not completely....

But to anybody who has it, it is quite unpleasant. I am pretty sure everyone is just as unhappy with their tinnitus as you are with yours. ;)

Comparing levels is fruitless. It isn't a competition.

I know it is not a competition. I guess I am hoping someone here has some advice. The last few weeks have been really bad and I don't quite know what to do.

I was just trying to say that it is hard when my doctor says "just try to keep busy" because that does not work.

I just took Marley for a walk cos she is happy today, and I got around the corner and got super dizzy and felt like someone shot a hot poker thru my head. It really scared me because there was no one around. I sat on the curb and Marley sat in my lap. After about 10 minutes we made it home.

Tinnitus is just really bad today. Sorry!!!

Remember the old guy recently who is in a wheelchair due to lack of balance and really hostilely told everybody to Google NF2 because he thinks he is worse off than anybody else?

There are quite a lot of people in this group with really bad health problems, and we end up here because of it and due to loneliness.

So I am trying to tell you not as a criticism really, but just that if we all go on and on about our problems, this site won't be any fun.

Well, I try to have a sense of humor...as today, took the boys to the dentist and my friend came with us...my balance was very OFF... so she let me put my hand on her shoulder as we walked....and asked me "what have you been drinking"? ...:giggle: As I've said that perhaps my whole neighborhood is thinking I'm the neighborhood drunk...but don't care anymore...:giggle:

I've always had tinnitus and after awhile I got used to it. But for a good chunk of the time I've had it its always been LOUD now it's just LOUDER lol and I've been having crazy insomnia..dunno if it's related cuz I try to ignore the tinnitus. My doctor finally gave me trazadone to be able to sleep because I wasn't sleeping...at all. Anyone have the popcorn ceilings and look stare at it and try to find shapes in it ? hahaha that's what I was doing cuz I was SO awake...reading, wtching movies, nothing helped lol

I also cut off caffeine for now...to see if that helps with the sleeping and the tinnitus. I'm not too worried about the tinnitus ..it's just more annoying than anything ..just was wondering if people who are more profound (nr in some freqs) have had their tinnitus get worse.

I read somewhere that tinnitus and recruitment usually get worse when you're hearing gets a lot worse. Just was wondering if it was true:P

Anyhow I'm gonna mention it to the CI/ENT surgeon when I go for my follow up on the 3rd just so he knows. maybe that will help with getting approved..

When I wasnt wearin my hearin aid, my tinnitus was killin me at night.. but somehow I managed 8 hrs of sleep a day. :dunno: (the ringin was real loud and out of control)

Now I wear my hearin aid everyday and not drink caffeine anymore proved my tinnitus.. I have a buzzin tinnitus and it's not bad at all. There are nights I dont have tinnitus at all. When my ear startin to get wet b/c of wax, I take my ha off until it's dry. I do that twice a day.

I do not put soap in my ear when I shower and I think it does help not to make tinnitus worst.

I have had it as long as I can remember, I just kind of tune it out I guess, it's always been there so it isn't really bothersome I guess. I know when I was little I used to think it was my best friend calling me on my brain phone...

Yeah, it progressively got louder as I went from profound to totally deaf, it peaked a few more years after hearing loss then declined to tolerating levels, since my CI op, it's making weird sounds at times
Here's the strangest one- if I wake up after 3 to 5 hours of heavy sleep, while standing over the commode, a piano starts playing in my head! :dance2:

Musical Tennitus....welcome to the club of us late-deafened deafies....Most times I can drain out the "zinging, roaring" etc., with a Song I remembered hearing....problem was the Song just keeps repeating over and over, keeping me from going to sleep...Changing the song sometimes isn't easy...and I never know when I actually fall asleep.
