Far out! I have NEVER seen that kind of thing before.

Strange that the idea never caught on...lol

never seen that .....is that just how the picture is or is that driveable? <am not mechanical at ALL>

Have to do myself a camper like that. it would be usefull somewhere. :giggle:

Interesting, that is very unusual way to have a Volkswagon Beetle and Camper.

It would be interesting to see latest Volkswagon beetle of today and camper towing.

How do you figure?

A trailer like this would be a danger on the road especially in the winter. It's better to tow a trailer from the back and not on the top.

By looking at the video clip, it doesn't look safe.

I am no expert but I don't think it would be any different that towing in a 5th wheel scenereo. The important thing would be to make sure there is enough re-enforcement at the tow point to carry the weight of the load. As far as manuverability, that VW can maneuver with a trailer better than anything I have ever seen.

Perhaps, although I bet the beetle can't make it up a hill with a few people in the camper.

For one, it's unsafe for people to ride in camper while going down the road. If the law remain unchanged since I last knew, unless people in camper can communicate with driver, it's illegal to ride in camper while travelling.

That's the thing, you know people will ride in them anyway.

Then that is their own fault and doesn't matter how or what is being pulled does it?

Regardless, I cannot see how Volkswagen Beetle can pull that thing up a steep hill at all times. There may be factors in why this never took off. Weight, the design, safety and such. Keep in mind that the video above is just to demonstrate the camper. It's supposed to knock people's socks off.

There's no mention of the capacity of the roof. Don't you think the car would be somewhat fragile to support this kind of weight?
