I'm a graphic designer. A while back I had an idea for an icon that means "Cochlear Implant". We've got the icon for deaf so I just worked on this as a sort of pet project.

Here's a version of that design

Anyway, I showed this to my audiologist. They contacted me because some teen Cochlear Implant gathering is taking place and they thought it would be nice if someone who has the CI also designs the T-shirts for it. I thought that was pretty neat and I'm honored to be a part of it.

I'm working on the design and I'm trying to think of some kind of slogan. This isn't necessary but just one of the ideas I'm playing around with. I'll create a few designs so they can pick the one they like that let me know if anything needs to be changed.

So I'm just brainstorming here. I figured there are a lot here who also have the CI so I was thinking this would be a good place to ask. I'm thinking of something along the lines of "Proud to be have a Cochlear Implant". Some slogan that says that.

So I ask. Do you have any ideas to share? If you, as a person with a CI had a CI T-shirt. What would you want it to say?

I just had an idea for this that I'm juggling around. But it's not quite there yet.

The idea is:

"CI can hear".

A kind of combination of:

"See I can can hear"

And

"Cochlear Implant can hear"

Something isn't quite right with it yet. What do you think?

Ron Jaxon

I think those would give some people false hope if it didn't work out for them. Some people thought it would help them hear the phone when they still struggle.

maybe CI user?

Good point. I do see where you're coming from but with the CI everyone can hear. Not hear everything of course but they all can hear sounds.

But the ones that will be there already have the CI. So it's not for people who will get one, it's for those who already do.

I'm still thinking. :)

What about something like

Cochlear Implant User, although we may hear we are still deaf. As a lot of people think CI users are hearing and not deaf anymore

Or just

Cochlear Implant User and the logo
seems simple enough.

Thank you for the replies.

I'm not looking to address any issues about the CI with this. There's no aim to correct any misconceptions. There will be a bunch of teenagers who happen to have the CI (Already have one) together. They already know what it's about and what it can and can't do for them.

So I'm looking for something teenagers who happen to have a CI would put on and enjoy wearing. Something catchy, maybe humorous or stylish as is what teens are often most interested in when they gather. LOL

People can also hear with hearing aids but it doesn't mean they benefit from it. (remember, Hearing aids Ampify sounds so they can hear otherwise no one would wear it)

Like I say, it could lead people false hope thinking it will cure them.

Cafe press has a ton of CI shirts and designs. Just search CI or cochlear implant.

They do use the phrase "CI can hear."

I really do understand your point. But like I said. These people won't fall for false hope. They've already got their implant. The purpose of the gathering is not to talk anyone into getting an implant. It's not about "Pushing the product" or encouraging anyone to get a CI.

I belong to a magic club because I enjoying spending time with other magicians. Because we have a common interest. This gathering is more like that.

people who been deaf all their life, it's harder for them to benefit from it. They can only determine if they can benefit from CI from a ENT

If I wore a t-shirt with a picture of a hearing Aid

and it says "hearing aids can hear" How would you feel about it?

I agree but that's another discussion. :)

Well, it's still up in the air. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on it. I guess it's back to the drawing board. Was just an idea I was tossing around for it.

I might not use a slogan at all. Just thought would be nice if I could find one to make it a little more interesting and fun. Something people can comment on to each other when they see it.

I doubt I'll be able to come up with anything as genius as the song from American idol "Pants on the ground". LOL

People with hearing aids can hear, so if you want to wear a shirt like that, more power to you!

Ron, don't give up! I'm sure the kids with CI's would love a cool shirt. They know they can hear, so let them have fun. Ignore the negative people.

I know a lot of the younger people enjoy CI's of bright colors and patterns. Maybe the CI image in those bright colors on a black background would look sharp. Girls like "sparkle", too. In other words, incorporating popular colors and designs onto to the image so it doesn't look so clinical.

That would be very cool to have. I think the picture say it all anyway.

That is a great suggestion about the colors. I've got some time to work on this so I'll really that that suggestions into consideration and see if I can work it in.

Well, like I said I just started working on this today. I generally end up trying many designs before I finally find what I'm looking for. So the image below is just what I came up with today as I experiment with ideas. What do you think?

Thanks again.

Ron,
I like it. You could also add in the name of the camp that the teens are attending and also the date. This way they would always have a keepsake of the date in mind. Im sure that a camp like this would be something these kids would remember for years to come, and I am sure they will have alot of fun meeting other fellow teens with CI's..

Maybe a slogan that incorparates both CI and Deaf pride? Best of both worlds maybe?

Thank you.

Incorporating both CI and "deaf pride" would suggest one has to do with the other. They don't. ;)

I think the "CI can Hear" is great and maybe try a tie dye color scheme with the CI logo on it? I think that would be really cool :) Or like a black or white tee with the CI logo in funky colors :)
