For quite sometime I have been throwing this back and forth. Trying to come to a way of saying it out loud. Not wanting to accept it. But being on this website has made me feel more comfortable in my own skin. I met a friend (who I actually just made sign up for this site) who has told everyone she is Deaf for some time, I have worse hearing than she has and it is okay for her to say it, she is comfortable. I guess I was still trying to hold on to the fact that I still have some hearing by saying I am HoH. Truth be told... this is the first time I am saying...

I am Deaf and I am ok with that...

Thank you everyone here for helping me through this, I wouldn't know what to do without you. :ty:

I'm the first to reply to your post?

I'm am sure it is hard for anyone not in your shoes
to understand just what it means to you to be able
to say that.

I have come to realize that I am Deaf in 1988.

I have been raised orally. So when I attended to a deaf summer camp. I came to realize. I am Deaf.

:)

Good to see that you are being acceptive to who you are.

First time I pulled my hair up in public, and I was not ashamed of having a hearing aid or being different. First time I felt NOT embarrassed when someone asked me about my deafness.

Good to feel free!

I complement you CBE. :D

 So soon you will start to understand my joking!

We shall begin the process... If CBE is willing!??

Nothing dangerous shall be done. but to make this thread fun.

Are you up to it CBE? :D

Candy Brown Eyes... Consider this as an honor!! :D

Let the initiation begin!!!!

It will start out by a few questions from our fellow Ad'ers.

The first three questions is to be asked about your deafness or deaf related. You shall answer with all honesty..

Those who askes.... May only ask about her deafness. After the three questions are answered.

Go on with the next initiation step.
Of your choice.

Do not do anything to be harmful. Lets keep this clean and fun!!

Did you notice only hearing are giving you sympathy?

That is the first question. ;)

Like Shel90 one time told a newbie, "Being deaf is fun!" (It could have been sarcasm)

When it first came about my family was a little split. Because of my condition it came on pretty fast, my brother actually thought I was faking it! Then when I went through everything and was diagnosed with MM he told me what he thought and how sorry he was. They do feel bad for me. I remember one night my dad had been drinking and he started to cry because he thought for some reason it was his fault. My friends are starting to slowly feel bad for me because things have gotten harder. Every time I see someone I know and they find out about it, I get the same sad looks from them. All I want really is for them to just try to adapt the best they can, like I am..

2nd question.

Now that you found a friend that is HOH.

How does that make you feel to be around other people with hearing loss? Deaf people.

I feel great about it, I wish I knew more people who were Deaf, then I could remember my ASL better! lol

It's always very touching when you know somebody you like/love *happens* to them. I can understand at some moments you might be fed up by their looks. But you need to tell them and to make them understand that YOU haven't changed... you're still the same and that they shouldn't be afraid of talking to you. Maybe ask them if they want to go with you to ASL class... :D that way you won't feel alone or something...

OK, next question. What are the three best things about being Deaf?

And congrats on being comfortable in your own skin.

1. The new experiences and people that I am meeting.
2. I can ignore people I want to ignore and now I have an excuse lol :giggle:
3. Knowing that I have a wonderful community that is behind me every step of the way.

AND thank you =)
