Damn Virginia is adding teeth to its sodomy law.....Another instance of states poking their noses into our bedrooms!

Virginia should better not pass that law!

The Virginia General Assembly will consider a new sodomy law when it begins a 60-day session today.

The draft legislation was approved by the Virginia State Crime Commission Tuesday. It prohibits sodomy in public but the commission also recommended keeping a broader application in direct conflict with the Supreme Court.

After the court struck down the Texas Homosexual Conduct law last year (story) similar laws in other states, including one in Virginia became null. As a result the commission drafted the new bill to maintain the ban on public sex. ...

But, even if the existing law is declared unconstitutional in light of the Supreme Court ruling some Virginia lawmakers want to keep it on the books. ...

Sodomy is considered illegal in most countries and even in the USA (altho they considered it unconstitiutional)

I just don't understand how they should expect to enforce it... they can't peek into our windows/private lives.

I don't understand why people are so adamant to deal with gay and lesbian issues by creating ridiculous laws like this. Sodomy is not an exclusively gay thing, as some straight couples do have anal sex. Does that mean all straight couples in Virginia must stop having anal sex? I think that is ridiculous.

You are right, gay and lesbian relationships and sex are illegal in many countries, but here is a list of countries where it is legal and illegal.

U want to have sex and practice this kind of things DON'T ANNOUNCE what ur doing...
U want it PRIVATE ??? DON'T tell anyone what ur doing in ur home!

THats how its begining to feel, we're being pushed back into the closet when we're FULLY out and PROUD, Sex HAS no say in it!

For those Sodomy it should be restricted to the peophiles NOT for others who consents this!

Seems like alot of the laws that are comming out are restricting what we can and cant do. Personal freedoms are what i love about my country, but if this keeps up i would really think about moving to another country. Anyone read 1984? At what point do we realize that that is now, after its to late? This president seems to be pushing us further and further there. I loved clinton, i wish we could get him back in office. We were on track to not having any debts as a country, the ecconomy was doing great, things ran smoothly, then right before the election things fell apart. I dont care what political party anyone cares for, i just want someone that will let me live my life anyway i want so long as i dont harm others, and will keep the country out of financial trouble. I'll end my rant now.

George Orwell, if he was alive, would be shocked to see what he wrote in "1984" coming slowly true to what his vision for the future would be like when he wrote the novel way back in 1948.

But it may take a political "Hail Mary" to get someone of either Clinton, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR and JFK's caliber to elect the next President this November. I fear that if Bush gets re-elected, America will no longer be "the light of the World".

The Virginia sodomy law legislation does totally smack against the principles of the Founding Fathers.

Actually I thought that sodomy was defined differently by different states.
Legally speaking, sodomy isn't just anal sex, but can include things like oral sex or anything that's not the missionary position. I think in a couple of states a lesbian couple could theoreticly be charged with sodomy....this is partly how some judges claim that lesbians are unfit mothers b/c they are breaking "sodomy laws"
