Lightbulb Not enough brave heterosexual soldiers

Obviously, a matter of convenience and politics . . . and not a religious or moral issue.

Military Soft On Don't Ask, Don't Tell?, 60 Minutes: Is Military More Tolerant Of Gay Members In Wartime? - CBS News

Discharges of gay soldiers have dropped dramatically since the Afghan and Iraq wars began, from 1,200 a year in 2001 to barely 600 now. With the military struggling to recruit and retain soldiers, gay soldiers claim that commanders are reluctant to discharge critical personnel in the middle of a war.

Stahl spoke with several gay former military members who say they were also out openly in their units, known to be gay by as many as a hundred other service members. "They don’t care….these are our peers…the 'Will and Grace' generation," says Brian Fricke, referring to the popular television program featuring a gay character. Fricke was a Marine Corps avionics technician who served in Iraq. "They grew up with it in the media….They see gay people as people…Americans," says Fricke. "They don't see gay people as people with a disability…."

These gay former service members say they did not re-enlist because they oppose the don't ask, don't tell policy, which they say shows the military's leadership is out of step with American society and its allies. Gays serve openly in the British military and in those of the other 14 NATO countries.

Oh, I hate "don't ask, don't tell" policy from military service, I feel that I had no respect to them and it's stupid policy but it was passed in 1993, not much new policy for military service.

In fact, Bill Clinton did signed into policy.

Democrats signed "Don't Tell, Don't Ask" policy

Republicans signed ADA laws.

Hmm...Interesting.

If there are some of gay soldiers in the same room where I sleep in. I'd hide all of their purses.

Or, put the lipsticks on their dressers.

Combat boot-style high heels would be preferred. They go better with camouflage than any shade of lipstick!

I still wear my combat boots from when I was in the military. Very
comfortable, but we didn't wear lipstick with field uniforms. At
least the females didn't.

When I was in, there was the mistaken assumption that all of the
females who were training to be helicopter mechanics as I was,
were gay. Being 18 and totally unaware as I was, I couldn't
understand why I wasn't being asked out. I was really cute
in chemo outfits. I could use a wratchet wrench and still look
sexy. Just what was the problem here. When I casually mentioned
my lack of prospects to a male friend, he replied, "Well, your gay, right?"

After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I said "NO". He said "Oh! Well
you live on the second floor barracks with all the mechanics, every
one just assumes you're gay!" So I grabbed him and put a lip lock
on him that melted his socks. That ended that rumor.

What a terif story! Lesbian or not, I never mess with a woman in combat boots! She might introduce me to handsome men in uniform. Rest assured, it's all don't ask; don't tell.

Oh my, I still can't get some of the songs out of my head that
we sang in cadence while marching, in Ft Jackson South Carolina, June
July and Aug! And you know about the heat and humidity there! I was
18 and 120 lbs of spit fire! That was 30 years ago and 7 babies later.
I'm still a spit fire though I have 45 pounds of "extra spit" hormonely
glued on. Sigh. I was a cute little trooper back then.

Your posting reminded me, immediately, of the 80s movie, Private Benjamin (probably the feminine version of Stripes?)

Private Benjamin (1980) - Memorable quotes

[after sex]
Judy Benjamin: Now I know what I've been faking all these years.
Henri Tremont: That was your first?
Judy Benjamin: And second.
Might that be what the guy said after you walloped him with a kiss?
