After months of searching and experimenting. I found the best solution to allow us to watch internet videos with CC and/or subtitles.

Before I explain how you can do this. Watch this video.

See how the subtitles show through the video?

You need a few things to do this.

First you need this subtitles player.
Nalsoft Subtitle Player
You can buy the full version for $9.99 but I haven't paid anything for it and it works fine. I like it thought so I'll probably pay for the full version eventually.

Next you need a video with a plain black background. I was going to make one myself but then I remembered another member of AD made on in another post. So you can just go to that discussion and find the blank video he made. Go here to find that.

Lastly you need the subtitles that match the show or movie you want to watch. There are many sites to download subtitles from. My favorite are subscene.com for movies and tvsubtitles.net for TV episodes.

Once you have these things then just fallow what you see in the above video.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Here's a more descriptive video that shows how to watch any internet movie or TV show with Subtitles.

I'm trying to figure this out. I've been following the steps. At this point I can't open zipped rar file containing subtitles.

What system are you using?

Windows Vista come with the programs needed to extract .zip files but not .rar files. I'm assuming since you can't extract the .zip files that you are not using Vista.

In that case I suggest you download winRAR. It'll extract both .zip and .rar files for you.

It says, "Free to try and $29 to buy". But I'll tell you that you don't have to pay for it at all. All it'll do is bring a pop up window offering to buy it every time you use it. But just close that "Buy it" window and the program will still work. So it's free.

When you have winRAR installed. Simply download the file (In this case the subtitles file). The winRAR program will automatically open. Then click the "Wizard" button on the winRAR program. Then click finish. The next window that opens will be the extracted folder and you can open it or move the subtitle file where ever you want it.

I made this video for you so you can see the steps. It's actually very easy. Just download and extract it (You are extracting it when you click the "Wizard" button).

So download winRAR and do what you see in this video and you should be all set. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help. It's great to be able to watch just about any online movie or TV episodes now.

Here's a tip. If you can't see the above video clearly enough then watch it at youtube in high definition. Or watch it in full screen mode.

Also, subscribe to my youtube channel. The entire channel is devoted to closed captioning and subtitling internet video. So you'll find more information and updates.

Thanks, you're good at this!

I finally got my subtitles opened up. Now I am wondering...i wont be able to keep this as a permanently subtitled clip will i? It is temporary way of setting up subtitles to view with movie, each time? Do I make sense?

Really appreciate your time.

Ron, I appreciate you taking the time to tell us about this!

I downloaded the subtitle player, then got everything you said. Then I went and got the subtitles to an episode of the British show Afterlife that I had. The player opened the .avi, and the subtitles and worked beautifully. Makes me mad now because I had ALL the episodes, but deleted all but that one, for some reason...

Anyway, the subtitle player started displaying the message "Sorry, the subtitle player will only display subtitles for 45 minutes until you buy it..."

But it looks worth it. I'm going to try the black vid method with surfthechannel.com and see if I can get it to work for some of the streaming vids there like you described for YouTube, et al.

Thanks, man!

Yes, It's a temporary way to watch them with subtitles. Mainly for Internet videos that can't be downloaded (Legally anyway). It's great because you don't have to download the large video file. Just the subtitles file which is a very small file. So it won't take up all your hard drive space.

By the way. If you ever want to watch a video you've downloaded with subtitles. You download the subtitles just like I described above for the subtitles player. Then open the video in what ever player needed to watch it. For example .wmv videos open in windows media player. .divx in DivX player and so forth. Most of them will play subtitles. The trick is to put both videos in the same folder and give them the same name. For example if the video file is called movie.wmv then the subtitles file must be in the same folder as the movie file and it must have the same name movie.srt.

one more tip for downloaded videos. Some of them are very, very large files. I've seen them up to 900mb. If you convert them to a different format such as FLV then it'll be a smaller file. The best free video converter I've found is the Quick Media Converter. It works great and I haven't found a major video format it won't work with yet.

I didn't realize that time limit. After I played around with the subtitle player after I found it I mainly watched hulu.com TV episodes and didn't run into that time limit thing. But I did purchase the full version because I'm really enjoying that subtitle player. $10 seemed like a great deal.

Thanks to this I'm getting hooked on internet videos. I've watched more movies and TV shows on line in the last month then I have in the last year. LOL

Since there are so many sites that you can watch TV shows and Movies on right now and they use different kinds of video and players. You might run into some some sites that you'll have to experiment a little with. For example the subtitles won't show though Hulu.com video when it's in full screen mode. But it will if you float/pop out the video. Streaming DivX videos are opposite. The subtitles will show through full screen but not a floating/pop out video.

We still have to work a little harder to enjoy internet video with subtitles then hearing people. But this at least makes it possible.

Let me know if any of you have any questions or need any help.
