Closed captioning on newer TV's
I'm well aware of the law that was passed some years ago requiring all new TV's be equipped with closed captioning. However, my friend who I visit often - he has a Magnavox TV that he purchased brand-new last year. For the life of us we cannot find the closed captioning on the menu options ANYWHERE. It is not even explained in the manual. We've spent hours trying to figure out where the captioning is and have looked at all the "options" on the menu and NOTHING !! Anyone else out there with a Magnavox TV that's had this problem?

You need get Sony HDTV, that's friendly for deaf people because CC will support on digital source like component or HDMI but I know that Sony HDTV is expensive, compared to other brand but more worth, I will switch to Sony HDTV in near future, as added on my list. Other thought, try use BD or HD-DVD movies instead of DVD movies because you will get SDH if your HDTV don't support CC via component or HDMI.

Same thing, if you notice about many different video out on back or side (composite to HDMI) then it's part of HDTV.

Did you check on remote control? It must be CC button on remote control to make CC to displayed on screen, enable on CC1. All TV in USA are required to have CC decode, when made in after 1993.

well, in america, I can see that the law is ALL Tv's must have captioning decoder, but I believe that ugly brand name TV doesn't have the captions fitted by law.

but I don't see Sony HDTV support closed-captioning via component (in digital), and HDMI. Please let us know if you see or believe that.

P.S It doesn't matter what brand, nice or ugly-fugly, all TV's over 13 inches will have the CC chip installed (decoders went out the window years ago, lol). |

It won't work on Sanyo, Westinghouse, Samsung and Philips, 3 of them has been tested before. You have to ask defmatrixense because he did watch DVD movies and CC is shown on screen via component cable, he have Sony HDTV. http://www.alldeaf.com/captioning-si...ld-know-4.html

It does because I am seeing it. Not only that I have a Sony HDTV but also digital cable box does support CC on Dell ultrashrap widescreen HDTV (dell 2407 model) via component

I have a Vizio HDTV and I hooked up my HD cable box (comcast) through DVI to HDMI - the closed captions work. I also hooked up my upconverting DVD player (Phillips) using HDMI cables - the cc didn't work but I switched cables from HDMI to Compenent and the cc showed up. |
