Have ya tried the control panel on your TV to resize the closed captioning font sizes?

It's the DVR where you can resize the fonts, not the TV. I do not have cable box DVR, but hopefully the DVR will provide options for you to change font size through menu setup.

Resizing fonts in TV is for ATSC antenna only.

Yes, ASTC is better fonts than DVR
also "Real-Time" ASTC better than DVR, oh well

I will wait for Sony DVR with CC with CableCard 2.0

Were you able to find the DVR menu setup to change font size? It has to be there.

Satellite service, Dish and Directv, CC built-in is included in HD receiver, that work in both of analog and digital CC, also allow to change the fonts, text and color.

Dish Network

Directv

RHR,

Your original post says that DVR cable box used to output in 480i and after the upgrade, it outputs in 1080i. You stated that CC was too small at 1080i and wanted to go back to 480i.

I do not quite understand your last statement. 480i is NOT HDTV. 720p or 1080i is HDTV. The picture quality of 720p or 1080i is significantly better than 480i. Your statement implies your setup is 480i and HDTV with CC. Are you referring to ATSC antenna? Can you clarify?

I understand that you need large CC text. Were you able to set text size to large from your DVR at 1080i? You should be able to go to DVR menu setup to change font size for 1080i pictures and watch large text CC. Watching at 1080i is much better for your eyes than at 480i or lower.

Thanks for the clarification. I understand now. It looks like COX is running some experiments. HDTV is still work in progress and we will continue to see HDTV problems from time to time as they continue to try to improve their service.

It has nothing with NTSC (analog) or ATSC (digital), all of them are from tv shows that broadcasting via over the air under antenna. For Feb 17, 2009 then NTSC would be shut down for shows via over the air only since all shows are exclusive in ATSC but numerous of channels like Nick, MTV, Fuel TV, Logo, CNN and more others are still in NTSC and would be not shut down after Feb 2009.

For your DVR, Cox is probably to upgraded to support upscale all SD shows into HD, it wasn't from NTSC or ATSC since cable companies are edit into different something.

If anyone who is subscribe to analog cable (no set box), digital cable (set box is required) and satellite TV service are NOT affected after NTSC is shutdown, it only affected for people who use antenna.

Thank you,

My parents use directTV since 1998 and we are very happy. My father adjustment the dish by himself to make perfect and clear screen. Only problem during rain and snow.

Maybe I will get cable for price.

I think you are correct. I keep forgeting cable companies do not have to comply with FCC deadline of killing NTSC by Feb 2009. The article RHR provided did not mention the FCC deadline date.

I am very skeptical of COX cable promising 100 HDTV by next year. The article says it will use bandwidth-optimization tool to squeeze in so many HDTV channels. That means poorer quality pictures.

There's no Cox cable service in Chicago metro but almost all part of Chicago metro are using Comcast, also in LA metro, they are using Time Warner.

I know that Cox is existing in San Diego metro and Las Vegas metro.
