Wonder why too many deaf people depend on SSI ??

Why not more deaf people focus on start up business or join money making online?? So they can quit it and leave SSI for good?? I have a lot of debate with my friends about this issues. my friend start to notice that many of them are not serious about change their life as better than currently. I am seeing them as lazy and not willing to change but keep whine about money issue as low.. Just getting JOB and spread out some dollars to make successful as such as investment or successful internet business where they can make simple money. So i want to ask your opinion to be part of internet business or prefer SSI alone? Please leave comment about this issue. Thanks..

Hi, I am new here. I am late deafened. I also have mild to severe vertigo all the time. I am on SSDI. Good thing I worked my tail off for 25 years before this happened. I am on SSDI more for the vertigo than the hearing loss. I would love to do something at home, because I cannot always get out. But I have heard REPEATED WARNINGS about any kind of internet money making sceme. I haven't heard anything good about any of them. I was in Retail Management before I got sick. I make jewelry and I paint furniture. Right now it's a little extra cash, but not enough to get off the SSDI. When this first happened they were going to put an Implant in until they realized I had no health insurance. Medicare will not pay for it. They also said the vertigo is pernament.

I know some who have SSD & SSI becasue they need it. It pays the bills . In addtion they also get the medical they need because of other medical problems.
Online businesses can be be bad investment if you don't have the money in the 1st place. I have also found that there are not many job opportunites for Deaf & Hoh. I don't know the Deaf people you know, but my freinds are not lazy. They have worked very hard in their lives,and are still active in some way. |

Yes, i do understand that you have friend who work hard for their lives. However, most of them are not working hard. Just plain lazy and getting money from government for ssi. Why not they just going out and find job?? One thing, it is very ironic that they just complain that they just getting small amounts from SSI checks. They just rush to move out to California due hear or rumor that they give largest ssi check ever they could have. California Government usually gave $1000 SSI check every monthly. More deaf people move to california and apply for change address and ssi information. They just hope to get $1000 as large but it is not enough.. U know.. Bush told Government to CUT SSI and no more for SSI in california... Many deaf people felt hurt by it since they want to use it for weed pot, party more oftens in california. So now they start to move to arizona or wisc due cheapest cost of lives. It is very sad to know.
