I just love making progress! Year number 3 is upon me and I think things are going pretty well for me in this language.

Huzzah! Another plateau bites the dust!

I was starting to despair...how long could I go on in the this language without seeing progress? Some days I agonized, "why am I bothering to learn sign?" "I can't be this stupid!" Turns out that all the waiting, stressing and hair pulling was for naught. I've finally seen my asl skills improve. This has been the longest plateau that I can remember but I've made it thru unscathed. The old adage is correct: what does not kill you, makes you stronger. Indeed.

I don't know what it is, about me but sometimes when i chat with deaf (especially those i don't know very well) I get a sudden case of the nerves. Others might handle it differently, perhaps by slowing down or carefully choosing their signs but not me. Nope. When I get nervous I ramble on. I say stupid, nonsensical things in a frantic effort to fill up the gaps in conversation. I do this alot in english too but at least there's no worry there about anything getting lost in traslation. Bugs...

So it appears that I have hit another milestone...

...in my ASL journey. It's funny how these things happen so very slowly until BAM!! It hits you that you've actually progressed. I had a revelation and it feels pretty dern good.

Yesterday I went to Gally bookstore and picked up Signing Naturally 3..set me back about 80 bucks. I can't for the life of me figure out why it was so dadburn pricy. Anyway, even though i'm not taking a class, I will definitely get my money's worth out of it.
