I RECIEVED THIS NICE MAGAZINE FROM GALLAUDET UNIVERSITY THE OTHER DAY AND I WANTED TO JUST SAY I AM SHOCKED THIS ISSUE FOR THIS MONTH IS ABOUT AUTISM AND DEAFNESS. I READ THE MAGAZINE AND I COULDNT STOP CRYING FOR THE MOMS OUT THERE THAT THINK MAYBE YOUR CHILD HAS AUTISM ONE THING: DONT WAIT UNTI U GO TO THE DOCTORS AND IF U FIND SOMETHING WRONG AT HOME BRING THEM TO THE ER IMMEDIATLEY HERE ARE SOME CLUES TO LOOK OUT FOR THE PARENTS THAT WROTE IN THIS MAGAZINE WAITED AND WAITED AND THEN THE DOCTORS A FEW YRS LATER SAID " YOUR CHILD HAS AUTISM".

SOME RED FLAGS:
-RESISTS BEING HELD OR CUDDLED.
-DOESNT REPLY TO HIS OR HER OWN NAME WHEN TAPPED OR WHEN ATTENTION IS SHARED.
-HAS DIFFICULTY IMITATING FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND ACTIONS OF CAREGIVERS.
-MAKES LIMITED USE OF EYE CONTACT EVEN THOUGH IT IS NEEDED FOR COMMUNICATION.
-HAS DIFFICULTLY UNDERSTANDING OTHERS NEEDS AND FEELINGS.

IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION FROM THE MAGAZINE I GOT YOU CANT SUBSCRIBE TO THIS UNFORTUANLITY BUT IF YOU WANT TO GET A COPY OF THIS IF YOU THINK UR CHILD HAS AUTISM LET ME KNOW AND I WOULD BE GLAD TO HELP YOU IN ANY WAY I CAN.

I had a stepson that had austism(high functioning)- Initially it was suspected he just had problems hearing-Which he didnt. But what a concept using Sign to help an autistic person communicate ! Wish I would have heard about that years ago

My son has high functioning autism; so they say anyway. He was diagnosed at age 2 with autism with mental retardation. But by the age of 4 or so; he began talking; using sentences. It was like whatever shell he was in, he broke free. He is attending regular private school, and does well. His speech is still behind by a couple years but it is much better. The doc said she couldn't believe it was the same kid (she saw him again at age 5). Sometimes I wonder if doctors are misdiagnosing children because it sounds like a perfectly good explanation; rather than do other studies. Maybe the child just isn't ready or just prefers to be different. My son does some very silly stuff at times but other kids find it very strange. Like in the way he expresses himself or tries to tell a story. He has a very vivid imagination and he likes ppl to veiw it as he sees it. Does that make sense??? But my son learns sign language with ease. He's great at it. And likes it. Wish I would have started him with sign when he was much younger. He is hearing but the years with pointing at things and whining might have been a lot easier if I had even thought about teaching him sign language. Just a thought for those out there with autistic children
