My back didn't hurt me. Just the rest of my body from the butt down.

and also you might want to try using any seat cushion too. available at any store or if you have any. for seat - I use the beads. the same one that taxi driver uses. It was actually comfortable!
Can it be attached to the back seat without sliding around? Also, I don't want to roll off the seat!

there is a seat cushion at store like Bed & Bath Beyond or similar that has strings at each corners to tie it down. It's pretty much DIY. There are literally hundreds of different solutions for this issue. Some goes to their local shop they can trim or add something to your seat... or... or get a sheepskin where you slap it on your seat... or pay top dollar for one of the best custom motorcycle seat company - Corbin.... or figure out how to tie down your favorite cushion to bike

I had to figure out how to tie down this bead seat too.

I was so "crippled" after yesterday's ride I could hardly lift my leg over the bike to get off.

I hope this gets better with practice.
ouch! ah... it is possible that you're experiencing a typical pain that pretty much every newbie biker goes thru. a numb/tingling sensation in foot/leg/hands after a couple hours of riding. It's because of intense vibration that your body is not used to. After a while.... you'll get used to it - hopefully. Even though I have ridden over 6,000 miles in less than 2 years.... I still do get some numbing/tingling sensation on my hands - usually from longgggg ride which goes away after 30 min.

for now - maybe pop some Vicodin before you ride?

I'm not sure if it's good idea to wear thick socks.. wouldn't that cut off the circulation to a certain degree? YMMV, I suppose. You might want to invest in wider foot pegs.... or maybe extensions for foot pegs to widen the angle of bending your knees. widened foot pegs are a common replacement for comfort purpose because the stock-version is pretty thin which sits right under middle of your feet - pretty dang uncomfortable. I want to get wide version but it's $$$$$$

left is the stock version of my bike's footpeg. notice how wide each footpeg is so the width depends on rider's level of comfort

I finally got my bike back today and wow I was impressed. It mostly had a significant engine tune-up. When I rode it home.... dangerously..... I txted my mechanic and said - "I think you gave me somebody's bike by mistake. It's very different. very crispy. very responsive. can't wait to rip a new ass for officer murphy tomorrow"

it's an insider joke among NYC motorcycle community. Officer Murphy is a notorious NYPD highway patrol with extreme disdain toward motorcyclists. Handful of us have had tickets from him.... including a fellow NYPD biker

You can always stop by at any store on the way. or maybe... get creative - use your gel pads for your butt

I didn't see you're leaving tomorrow morning. oye oye! Ride Safe and Fast!

Maybe but I think it's mostly the awkward sitting position putting stress on my joints and feet. When I ride in our Jeep for long trips I usually have a cushion under one hip to straighten me out, and in my Jeep I have a custom foot rest to keep my leg supported. No such options on the bike.

Um, no. But I might take an Advil.

I'll be wearing lace up boots, so I can loosen them to fit.

We've pretty much decided that the foot pegs need to be replaced with something flatter and wider for better support. I wish I could get them before our trip tomorrow.

Yes, the ones I use are like little sticks.

Originally - my friend was supposed to go with her father in Myrtle Beach.. just overnight but he changed his mind because he's an old fart and it's tiresome for him. it's too late cuz she has already made reservation with hotel so she asked me and others to join her. I told her - sure why not but I want to ride, not carpool with ya'all

I'll have to tell them that there'll be Black Biker Week in town!

there's always a solution for nearly everything!!! I'm sure there are many bikers with quirky issues like yours and I'm sure they have clever idea for it too! It surely does help a lot if you have a friend who is a fabricator.

oh... sorry to hear that you'll be uncomfortable but hey - look on the bright side! It's a perfect way to find out exactly what works and what doesn't work.

It's not limited to black bikers but they are the majority. Also, they are mostly sport bikes.

Black Bike Week 2010

Be aware that MB has some restrictive biker laws within the city limits. Most venues for the two bike weeks have moved outside the limits.

Motorcyclist Hit By Wild Turkey

Published: Sunday, May 9, 2010 at 12:01 a.m.
Last Modified: Monday, May 10, 2010 at 5:19 a.m.

An Arcadia woman was riding her motorcycle in Sarasota County when a wild turkey flew into her path and hit her in the face.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 42-year-old Lori Hansen was taken by helicopter to a St. Petersburg hospital in serious condition after Saturday afternoon's crash.

FHP says Hansen was knocked unconscious. The motorcycle ran off the road and struck a barbed-wire fence, entangling Hansen.

As for the discomfort Reba is experiencing on that kind of bike and passenger seat, she needs her own bike.....that or a touring bike.

We've decided no more long round trips until we get:

*fairing with windshield

*floorboards/foot rests

*new boots

*more seat padding

IF (big IF) I could get my own bike, it would have to be small, like a 250 but that wouldn't be good for long trips either.

I still think a few years down the line we should get a fully loaded trike (like someone we know ).

Pictures from Saturday's trip to Edisto Beach. Sorry I can't show the ones with us in them. The snake was on a tree in Edisto State Park. The flowers were on the porch where we had a pleasant outdoor lunch at the SeaCow Cafe.

sorry to hear Reba. Hate to say this but I was definitely expecting that. There's no way bikes like yours and mine can be comfortable for long trip as 2-UP. I definitely do want to get bigger windshield. Mine is small and it does get pretty dang exhausting when wind is constantly blowing at you full-blast.

That's why the touring bike is like a 2-wheels Cadillac. It's that amazing. I marveled at what it's equipped with especially for passenger. I hope to find a wife who would enjoy it with me

btw - why only 250cc? there are some small bikes that can go up to 600cc like Buell Blast (500cc).

you know.... about boots issue - it is OK to wear those above-ankle hiking boots (6" high). I'm currently wearing just jeans, hiking boots, and armored jackets for commuting purpose. Lot of passengers wore hiking boots. It is comfortable and it is better than sneakers or ankle-height footwear in terms of safety.

Risky? yes but an acceptable risk IMO because when it comes to commuting especially in NYC... mobility is very important to me. If my mobility is limited because of all these armors on me, then my risk factor would be high because I will not be able to take an immediate action (like evasive maneuver) quickly. I go ATGATT when I go on trip or highway for a long period of time where it's mostly fast and straight. but yes - I could get seriously injured in NYC where I would not be this injured if I were ATGATT.

So really - it's entirely up to you.

My boots are in the trash can, so I need to buy new ones.

They fell apart while we were at the rally. Flop, flop, the soles separated from the uppers.

No, just cheap boots. The black color flaked off on everything, permanent stains, so I also threw away two pairs of socks. The soles simply separated from the uppers.

ah... whew! it surely looks like you had a bad accident. That boots look like my Timberland. I noticed one thing -

see where I circled it? Is that area melted??? it happens when footwear is near the exhaust pipes.

We met a Deaf peddler at the rally. I know we shouldn't encourage them but I got a chance to chat with him and give him my cards (no cost, of course ).
