You DO NOT have to have taken the written test at the DMV in order to take the MSF class. You can sign up for the class without ever having taken a bike test or even been on a bike before and the college furnishes bikes for the class. After taking the class you'd get a certificate to take to the DMV and they waive their bike skills test and you just have to pass the written test.
Are you sure about that? MSF's Basic Rider Course requires the riders to have a learner permit prior to taking the course.

Successful completion of the BRC will earn you a skills waiver card for the NCDMV. This means the DMV will not require you to take their motorcycle riding test. You will still be required to visit your local DMV office and take their written exam before being issued a motorcycle endorsement.

I just checked out Virginia's MSF. How ghastly - no learner's permit is needed but it makes sense since Virginia's MSF teaches you and certifies you in one place.

Yea they have to have a valid auto license the learners permit is just an endorsement on their license. Have to have a valid regular license to take the MSF class to. When I took it the instructors made everyone show their drivers license the first 10 minutes of class. That and fill out a liability waiver for the college. Where I took it the college owns 12 bikes for the class. Those taking it can use their own if they want to but most dont which is a good thing for someone thats never driven a bike. If they lay it down on the course they dont have to pay to repair it. Most of the bikes when I took it were missing turn signals or they didnt even work. The instructor told us just to assume they worked.

Yup im sure. I did go to the DMV and take the written test and got the learners permit before I took the MSF class but it was just me and 2 others that had taken bikes tests before and one of those was from out of state.

Did you ride your bike to the MSF class or did you use a loaner bike that was provided by the class?

ah. there you go then. It contradicted with your previous statement - "You DO NOT have to have taken the written test at the DMV in order to take the MSF class."

You think I don't understanding you then you are selfish. We passed written test AND road test in MSF class today. In fact, everyone in MSF class don't have permit at all.

You got wrong person.

No, We are not allowed to ride MSF's motorcycle on public streets. Only at build's park till we passed road test and written test. Now, we can take our future motorcycles to public street.

No one rode their own personal bikes to the class? Everyone borrowed the MSF bikes?

if MSF do not have bikes especially for BRC - they would not be in business.

The college supplies the bikes for the basic class. Where I took it at anyways. If you take the experienced rider class or dual riding or sportbike class you must use your own bike.

Everyone passed the class but Navy retired 80 years old man don't make it due too many break rules. He forget to bring a jacket and gloves, he leave it at home so We had to waiting for him when he drove to home to grab a his gear. Next day, he wear a church dress but he don't bring a boots. So he rode MSF's motorcycle without boots for around an hour till someone busted him and he is not here anymore.

He said he is the one of 10 people in the world for "master seal" (not sure if right word) and He went to BP oil spill to help.

I just found it out in class today. Once we passed class then we can get our $20 *each of us* back but we donation $40 to MSF for t-shirt. So $20 for one MSF t-shirt or free.

No idea why so cheap in IL.

OH! I know. I just remembered. That MSF in IL must be state-run (or funded by donation). Some states do offer free MSF courses. But we no longer have free MSF courses offered by NJ as of this year due to massive budget cut. I took mine at private college $250 but it was because free MSF courses were booked for months and I didn't want to wait that long.

Make sense to me. MSF is in Iowa's college which it cost around $200 and ready in anytime. No, we don't want to waste $400 for us.

We waited for almost 1 year for MSF. We signed up and waited for almost three months for first class but they failed to check their email that we want an interpreter then they gave us another four months with interpreter. We can't find any info for phone number but email only on MSF's website for our area.
