If I had more $ than brains, I'd love to have these musclecars in my garage..
1) 1970 AMC Javelin Trans-Am Edition with the AMX 390 motor and painted to look like a French flag. 2) 1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351 3) 1967 Corvette 435 hp 427 cube V8 with 3 carbs on the manifold. Now that's 1960s fast lol. 4) 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A 5) If I had 1/2 a brain, I'd probably combine a 1971 Olds 442 with a 1971 Oldsmobile VistaCruiser wagon to make an ultimate sleeper lol. Sad was the factory didnt even make one though. |

If I had more dollars than brains, while i like the 67-69 Camaros or the 70's Corvettes too, but I wont be forgetting to oggle over other cars like italian and german exotics, if not muscles! (but look again at the wheels and engine its monsterous, hardly deniable that these indeed were 'muscles cars' just my opinion (maybe someone could correct me in this misguided assumption i dunno) But Hey! I llike a 1958 Ferrari Superfast dammit it could do 285k/hr 4 speed V12 whatever that monster guzzled i dont wanna know LOL This superfast also sported fishtails too....GTO250...GTO330LP...lamborghinin Contach....there is probably hundreds more but 'we dont see it' because it is too special, too uncommon and "not american", blah in a way thats a kind of 'car racism' thing Ok we do it alot to the Jap crap (which they ARE) but there are exceptions...like Skylines (i had a R30 skyline that did 160km/hr in 3rd gear with 2 more to go.....it was a 2ltr turbo charged race-bred motor from the 1982!! now... even back then (late 70s' -early 80's) Ferrari 308s could muster abit into 220-230k region with 4 more cylindars and 1 extra litre in capacity.....

I know , been in one, also the XU1 was a great car too, my brother had a mK1, with a 186 it was capable of doing close to 140 mph, and it gets there bloody quick too. Triple Stromberg carbs, hot cam worked the magic. His XU1 was a real one, not the LC mock up.
GTHO's Phase 3's now worth ALOT of money once there was a news highlight of one being sold for AUD$1,000,000 ! This particular one was orginal condition was very low mileage (not sure what it was). The colour was white with black stripes. I had been in XU1's numerous times, and been in one 2 years just before my freind's had it shipped to USA as he is a car collector (told him he should keep it but was the money...didnt impressed me much that). but way yeah australian muscles in the 70's were great, heard lots good things about the A9X's too worth more than XU1's but I prefer Xu1 the looks is simply true to the boy racer's dream image-wise and I like it. One day I might think about 'making a mock up' but try get as close as i can but with a 202 version, the gearbox part is going to be hassle to get this close.

the film version of the interceptor had used a chrysler 340 v8 in place of the believed 351 (ofc thats a ford...but rumour is that they wanted a light v8 and small enough to house on a dummy blower that operate on a electric motor - giving the 'flick on the blower (gear shift in the film) effect. Honestly I'm not sure if this is true but it seems probable, i will look for the link (tried just before but bit hazy about where it is , when i find it id post up the link to show)
Cheers

Now as you guys speak of having more money then our brains,
I would like to get me 67 Camaro, install 69 Camaro rear sway bars onto it since 69 Camaro launches the best back then down the quarter mile. Then overhaul 350 small block engine with modern technology to improve the true power with 3.55 or 3.42 with positraction rearend. 67 Chevy Nova II with supercharged corvette 350 sm blk engine backed up by custom built transmission that can manage 600+ hp that runs with hwy rearend gears such as 3.08. 55 Belaire with a big horsepower pumping out of a 406 small block, powerglide, and 4.88 rear for cement digging down the street. My father grew up hard way becoming professional mechanic, had lots of classics on hand before I was born. He had 55 and 57 Belaire, 66 Nova, 73 Corvette with bored 400, 69 Chevelle SS and by the time I was around, he had a 69 Impala with 327 mean engine in it. He had to sell them all off becuz of 1970s money problems nationwide to keep the house raising us boys. He decided to get a family car and got bored not having a mean street car so he put in a 350 small block bored to 369 (0.060) and put in his customized number camshaft, 400 crankshaft... drove it for years until about three years ago the engine retired. He installed a 406 engine with 350 long journal crankshaft, his own numbered camshaft, fuel injection, 3.55 posi rear, stock SUV exhaust heads with customized dual exhaust system (2.75) and is driving it on and off nowadays. He clocked it at 10.33 seconds in the quarter mile and I borrowed it one time drove it at 75 mph on the hwy smashed the gas pedal, the car danced for a while until I hit 95 mph. It runs like a jet in a four door 79 Malibu. Yes a street sleeper. eh. I used to own 79 Malibu with three different 350 engines, two broken rearends, twisted the frame, so we took it apart. threw it out...kept the extras for his other 79 malibu and my brother has a 78 malibu with 410 small block street race car runs flat 10s. We all do not believe in using Nitrous. He currently also own 94 and 96 Impala SS. My brother owns 99 Pontiac GTX, upgraded brake system, chips, transmission, and he clocked it at 12.96. He wants to bore it, and few more upgrades but no time to do so until he does. I own nothing in similar until I have the money to. I got four kids to raise first. Then I will start looking. eh.

that valient was also one of the most dangerous car it handled pretty badly, i think it got alot to do with the slant-6 (straight6 but leant over on an angle) which made /transmitted so much torque on a weak frame/body that it nearly twist...as the back end of the car would get VERY light and bouncy....scary!! have a friend who had one he told me about it. but yup the E49 was quick it never won races probably because the late Peter Brock never drove it also the Toranas was more compact thus better handling.

In my first marriage, we had 92 Camaro T-Top with a 305 EFI engine, we were divorcing and I gave up the car because of GMAC in the city were ripping some of us off since they did not have the proper system to keep track of all payments and people stealing the money. Plus I did not want to be reminded of that insane woman I married by mistake. I regret it later that I shouldn't have given that car up because I liked the way it managed the curvy road at 80 mph...I would have paid it off and put in a 406 small block, upgrade the rest in it. Other then that, I had a 79 Oldsmobile Cutlass with 77 camaro 350 engine and transmission. I bought it for 1,000 bucks and tuned the engine to run right. It has no rust, no dent or anything but it looked like a nice grandma car so I switched the wheels on it to make it look like it is my car. LOL. Clocked it in 14s not bad as a high school car. Drove it at top speed of 145 mph from Kansas City to Omaha, Neb. almost all the way with 5 friends riding. Fun car. Wrecked it in heavy rain storm going 80 mph, saved the engine and parts for the 79 Malibu. Bought the Malibu for 900 bucks, restored the body and had it for about six years. I also had 88 Chevy Beretta 3.1 MFI, upgraded cylinder heads and MFI throat. Sold it.
At this moment, I would get me the new Camaro and upgrade the engine to the maximum. I used to like Ferraris because of their exotic style but they are slower then our american built corvettes. I have things for exotic cars. I would do anything to drive McLaren F1s, Bugatti Veymour and Lamborghinis.

The reason we dont like 383 is the crankshaft journal is different sized then the 350 and 400. The parts we like to use the most doesnt work right with the 383. We just do not like the way it runs. So we stuck with 350 and 400 blocks. Can you image you can outrun a blown 454 big block just running a 350 small block engine? It happened few times. LOL. My brother had the same experiences but in big dogs league down on the streets (midnight runs)... funny thing, is that I keep seeing shock or pissed face expressions on the guys when they dont expect something extreme out of the cars like we have. So why show off? eh. Honest, you guys are doing just fine, you guys impressed me just enough. I know few guys around our ages that digs as deep as we all do. I know a guy that lives nearby, he drives a 97 Mustang with 351 W supercharged pumping 500+ horsepower backed up by 3 speed transmission and low ratio rearend (gears # forgotten) and other guy who does more to his down in Arkansas. There is lot guys like that with all kinds of cars like Fords, Chevys and the classics.

I remember those chargers, but getting less and less...
I have pictures of my cars. The one posted was my first car.. 79 Oldsmobile Cutlass with 350 small block chevy and transmission, dual exhausts, the wheels were custom painted by me to match the car besides leaving wired caps on cheap wheels looking like a grandma car..jeez not so me. Taken in Nov 92 as part of my senior picture just about a month before I wrecked the car. The red one is 79 Chevrolet Malibu.. the paint was maroon, I painted it in name Catell Metallic.. it is more of color of rose with metallic tone in it..has 350 engine in it... three of them..the last one was 350 upgraded to H.O. and pumping 380 hp...twisted the rear frame off the line after few months on the street... parked it for two years then rusts start eating up the quarter panel.. I need to replace the frame.. no money... got kids... took it apart.. for my fathers two cars and my bros car. tsk. Forgot to mention I almost bought a 73 Camaro z28 red with black stripes but I was one hour too late.. the guy sold it to other guy..

On my next hunt, my dream to get or build from scratch will be these three.. 55 Chevrolet Belaire, 67 Chevrolet Nova (Chevy II), and 34 Chevrolet Coupe but any good chevy will do it.. these are just three of my top 10 favorites.
