I gave up after 7 driving lessons in London, when I was 17 due finance problem that's time I got a new apartment... It's hardly to cope with driving school expense and rent a new apartment on the same time... I decided to quit until my finance does improve... but I never thought about live in Germany when I met and married to a German.

After live in Germany in 1985, I decide to not need a car because my hubby can drive everywhere with me... and I can get a bus to work during bad weather and ride a bicycle to work during good weather until happened in 1991... The rumor goes for years to move caserne where we work to other caserne which is long way... bad bus connection... so I applied for driving lesson... They gave me driving theory book then I have to take driving theory examination. It took me year to study on driving theory... until the official in 1992 that we have to move from the caserne where we work to other caserne in 8 months time... It's great because I already studied on driving theory one year before... then I am able to take driving lesson... I applied for driving school for the Deaf, that's time I was 3 months pregnant with first child. I stayed at pension and go to driving school for the Deaf for 4 whole weeks... until I passed both driving theory examination and driving test then finally got my first driving liescne when I was 29 years old and 3 months pregnant... After pass both driving theory and driving test, I bought a car from my boss's daughter for a good price...

Unfortunlately, the caserne where we work will move to other caserne this year which is near my home... which mean that I do not need a car... It takes me 15 to 20 minutes to ride a bicycle to work during good weather... If bad weather, then use a car... only 5 to 7 minutes drive...

For those of you who didn't get a permit until later, why was that?

I got mine at age 15 because that was the age people were allowed to get their permit. There wasn't anything holding me until later to get it.
well, i got late at 20 for first time driver license. my sister got her license at 16. she drove to school 5 days then hang out with girls for fun. lucky her!. i did joyride one time with my old best friend when i was 17, we went to club dance. i know, my bad but it was fun experienced.

anyway, one deaf person who never got license, always take a bus or train for 15 yrs now. cuz afraid of driving.

Yea, I know other countries drive on left lane. My ex-roomate was an chubby Irish guy. He used come to USA for college. Sometime when I was in my driver's seat and waiting for him. He walked up to my driver side and opened the door and about to sit on me. He quickly realized it's not european car so he shut the door and walked around and got in passenger side. Other day, I rode with him (he owned ford feista), he drove on wrong side (didn't tell him that) and he saw car coming on his lane from distance and he quickly switched to right lane. He made me laugh every time.

Read the topic title again. Don't said anything about permit and driver license.

People who first time to drive can be 13 years or young old because farm and there is no law, only for road.

I believe every teenage have right to learn drive at age 16. That way, they can learn better and less accident and less stupid. If drive at late age, the lack experience they get.

I had permit when I was 15 then got actual license when I turn 16.
