Best buy Job position Issue

Best Buy Geek Squad is full of discrimination.

I used to work as window technician for 4 years. My job is to install windows at new houses, replace windows, etc. I work 50 houses per weeks (10 customers per day) and I am 5th generation deaf and I don't speak at all. My company was very lucky to hire me, because I got plenty of customer's positive feedbacks, and won several recognition from my company. They were very sad when they found out I'm leaving their job for a new life in California. :)

Were you required to communicate with customers? The OP talked about a Best Buy job that pays to fix electronics AND communciate verbally with customers so that's why he was not hired. That's a different story.

I understand his ASL, thank you very much. My previous job does require communication, but my boss don't believe my deafness affect the work itself, and they can always find in different way to communicate such as writing, gesture, and some customers understand ASL. Geek Squad is all about 1. Problem Solving 2. Completing on time 3. Customer Satisfaction 4. Professional work ......does it need a deep communication to fix the problem? Customers who cry can kiss my ass.

I agree.

Wirelessly posted (sent from a smartphone. )

I've applied for Best Buy 2 or 3 times in the past. Not one call or an interview. Its all b.s. They don't know about me, their loss.

same goes with my freind who worked in window tech at circuit city. deaf and he has same attitude as you. when he left, they cried a river as thy lost a smart tech. I too worked in pc field but I traveled on the job and did 5-10 customers a day in a 125 mile zone circle. The system admins who knew me always prefer mee to work with them then the other tech because they know I get the job done and fast and well. Problem is getting your foot in the door.

Circuit City is an electronic store. Your friend worked as a window technician there? Do you mean a computer technician?

Window technicians are professionals who specialize in installing or replacing windows in houses or buildings.

Nevertheless I understand your point about deaf people usually getting the job done well and fast. But the original poster in this thread talked about audism at Best Buy.

Don't you mean Microsoft Windows not Window...big difference.

The part about Circuit City....that reminds me when I was being interviewed but got turned down because they won't hire salesman who are deaf. Lots of communication skills for sure.

Of course, that's nothing new. Did you expect that they would pay for an interpreter to work with you all day if you were hired? :laugh2:

Haha, unless there was a portable interpreter with me. :laugh2:

I had same issue with Best Buy. Even though I have Personal Computer Technician certificate. They won't hire me. I spoke with manager there and explained that I can do repair works in the shop (that was 10 yrs ago before Geek Squad came). He hesitate and told me that he will call me. He never did. I knew they don't want deaf people. I just move on and that's their loss.

Right now I have lot experience with Customer Relation and didn't have problem with them. I can add on resume and see what company have their say. If discrimination continue from different companies (like Best Buy, MicroCenter, ect). I would end up filing lawsuit against those companies for discriminating against deaf. We deaf are part of Economics and we should contribute to Economics instead of receiving SSI, SSDI. I believe we should have equal access to jobs regardless.

Yes, there is one Deaf guy with a poor English level works at Best Buy. His name is Luis and lives in North California near Bay Area.

Not that I know of. He is Puerto Rican, I think. He is hispanic aged about 37 or 38. I have seen his picture somewhere in DSC. His aim was HotLuis or something like that.

If a smartphone that could interpret via an ASL interpreter (the one I talked about in my recent thread) is available here today, you would definitely be hired as long as you have a good knowledge of audio/video technology. They would have no reason for not hiring you.

I do not know ASL , could you tell main part of what he said? Thank you "Best Buy Geek Squad is full of discrimination." you said this in one of your comment , do you think the OP weight could be an issue too? It should not be but it does happen a lot.
