Checked into a Las Vegas hotel after asking and being assured that my room had accommodation for hearing impaired. Hot assurances via email and at checking all was set. Have friends also staying at same hotel.

Get into suite , notice phone does not have light flasher. (I can use the phone OK, I have hearing aids but cannot hear phone when not wearing them.)

Call down to front desk and told that an engineer will bring up a phone. Go to dinner, come back and no phone. Call again and are then told "we don't have any phones". Explained how I had been reassured all along the way that this was promised. No dice. Finally said I would speak to the hotel mgr in the am.

Stop by front desk in am and hotel mgr comes out. Explains how they were supposed to have a phone, but a supplier screwup happened, so no phone. Offers to move me to room (not suite) at sister hotel 15 minutes away or if I can find a suite elsewhere, he will help me move and try to get me a similar rate. (holiday weekend, no chance of that.)

Neither option is really acceptable to me. What would folks suggest?

Take your own mobile? It is kind of an obsolete technology with the landlines.

Remind him that you have documentation confirming the agreement for accommodation, and that not providing such is in violation of the ADA. If it comes to it, explain that you have no problem filing a complaint with the DOJ. I bet they find an old phone somewhere with a flasher on it.

You might also suggest that rather than inconvenience you with a move, he try borrowing a phone with a flasher from that sister hotel.

Already told him they're in violation of the ADA. When I asked about getting a phone from the other hotel he said they were built into the wall, and couldn't be moved.

Good ideas, thanks!

Then I'd say unless you are willing to file a complaint of non-compliance with the DOJ and all of the local business organizations such as BBB,and let the manager know that you are doing so immediately, you are just going to have to put up with lack of accommodation.

What about bring your own phone with flasher if your hotel has phone socket, not 1970s style fixed phone to wall.

Due to nature of red tape at government level, file the lawsuit would waste of time and should be reserved for last resort, including file to DOJ.

I'm strongly suggest to you to get confront with hotel manager and demand their compromise like get full refund for hotel because of fail to meet the ADA law or just lie to you, even you did state that hotel room has flasher included but it is not. I believe that you are deserved to get full refund for all bullshit from hotel.

If not resolved so go to file the lawsuit with DOJ, NAD or other law center, whatever you pick.

Uh oh...better keep that one in mind when I go to Vegas in August. Which hotel?

It's Vegas. Tell them since they didnt comply to your requirements and it would be miserable for you to move and to get a discount on the room, a steep one.

First of all - they are not violating anything. They acknowledged it and apologized for it. They even offered to compensate you.

If they are violating ADA law - that would means they acknowledged it and knowingly refused to provide accommodation but they didn't, right? there you go.

He was told everything would be taken care , and had no reason to bring a phone with flasher . and he was told a phone could not be taken from a sister hotel, so I am thinking if they brought their own phone there would be no way to hook it up. I would file a complaint against the hotel and try to get a discount rate , or a refund.

I have to agree -- it sounds from the OP that they're aware they didn't meet the promised expectations. A discount on the rate seems in order.

Frankly, (I hope nobody blasts me for this) I have come to have low expectations when traveling - I am going to assume that things will fall short. So *I* make sure I have what I need -- my phone for communications, my own alarm clock with vibrator, and the like. I try not to depend on a hotel or airline to provide this for me, because oftentimes, things exactly like this happen. It shouldn't, but it does. I've learned to make myself self-reliant.

My grandfather used to say, "He who expects nothing shall in no way be disappointed."

True, that.

Great advice, I will do this. I was really independent before I lost my hearing, and I hate that sometimes i am limited by the situation. I am thankful I am where I am, though, I could be much worse off.

I really appreciate the ideas, I don't really want money out of the deal - what I would like to accomplish is to make this a positive - so the next person doesn't have this problem. I'm certainly going to write some letters and make some posts, how best to get the word out?

Maybe this: Serene Innovations RF-110 Super Loud Cell/Phone Ringer/Flasher Products for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Sign Language

I have it but don't use it anymore (since my husband passed away...had it for whenever he called me during the night while he was in the hospial). Don't remember how well the flasher worked as the alarm sound was enough to wake me up.

This looks really good! I see it also can run a bed shaker as 95 db probably won't wake me up. Thanks!

Sorry, did not see this before.

It's the Planet Hollywood Westgate Towers - on Harmon behind Planet Hollywod - it's a separate entity from PH.
