I have been hunting and searching the information regarding Deaf Flight Attendants on Internet. I contacted several flight attendant association and they cannot give the names out or confirm the information according to privacy laws. Darn!

Why? The rumors got my attention saying 29 Deaf Flight Attendants are unionized in couple of flight attendant association. 6 of them use ASL, read lips and wear hearing aids. 8 of them are hard of hearing, a little in sign language. Rest of them are orally and wear hearing aids and no knowledge of sign language. I have been tracking down the rumors from people who brought up - they haven't had proper source. The rumors mentioned that airlines are mandated to comply with ADA. FAA strictly prohibits discrimination in any airline industry within this country. I contacted FAA and they didn't have records of Deaf Flight Attendants - they kept referring me to those union association.

Ugh... No luck here.

So, I am turning around to you. Anybody had FA on one's flight or know about Deaf Flight Attendants -- and which airline they are working for?

Start with the source of the rumors. Where did you first read about deaf flight attendants? Can you query the source for more information?

Thank you -- The link you attached -- I have done that, I called those agencies, FAA, union association, airlines, etc... the problem is that they cannot give information out according to privacy acts.

Indeed, I am on this tracking down the rumors to gather the information as much as I could.

So far, British Airways was the one I am communicating but they keep saying they could not get permission to give out the information.

That's why I am turning to Deaf people because they usually fly a lot, they would have some answers for me.

Thank you.

If they cannot give out information... can they give information to the attendant? Have you thought about leaving your information with some of the airlines? I actual got my job that way.

Wrong! I was a waiter and bartender for Houlihan's in New Jersey. Waiter at Ruby's Tequila. Bartender at Johnny Carino's. Cashier for Bath Body Work. Sales Associate for Osh Kosh B'Gosh. Court Clerk for a municipal court and Liaison for Court Clerks and Police Department over driving violations. Library Administrative Assistant to Library Branch Head, worked at front counter and Library Reference Center Desk.

I took "hear" out... that means, Deaf can do anything -- no matter if you are hearing or not. I can communicate without lipreading or hearing.

Cheers!

Sara, Deaf can do anything except hear. Deaf peep can be a waiter, truck driver, dentist, or even porn star.

Quit being negative and belittle Deaf people that they can't!

DEAF can, so you can, too.

Ummm .. WOW ... as a frequent flier in the past I quickly learned that the emergency exit row has MUCH more leg room. So I would always request it. ( I am about 6ft tall ) I was refused seating in an emergency exit aisle once because when the flight attendant was explaining the 'dutys' of sitting next to the emergency door I asked her to speak up , that I was a little deaf. ( I speak normal and dont wear aids .. so most people would not notice ) She said something about "faa regs" .. I ended up getting upgraded to first class over it. They also credited my miles account with a bunch of miles and I was OK with it .. So I really did not make much of a stink over it. But I also learned to just say "yea sure , I always sit in the exit row .. I know is expected of me" , so I never got bothered again.

What I dont understand here , is how could there be an faa regulation ( Strict Rules Imposed for Sitting in Airline Exit Rows - NYTimes.com yes it is a 20 year old article , but I have not heard ( read ) about the rules being changed at all .. also the last time I flew was pre 2001. Has this rule changed ?? ) about the seating in an exit row .. BUT they allow a flight attendant that would not meet the requirements ??

Never heard of a deaf flight attendant but, then again, anything is possible. :)
