I hope someone copies this whole thread and sends it to McDonalds and all the other fast food places. Its one of those "duh" things - if you are hearing, you don't even think about how hard this could be for a deaf person. Like people who can walk don't even think about how a dumb little lip on a curb could keep a person in a wheelchair from crossing the whole street.
As far as I am concerned you have the right to go anywhere and do anything you want to, and if I am ever one of those jerks behind you in line at the drive through, please feel free to come over to my car and tell me to stop being such an idiot. |

![]() Seriously, though, I hate drive-throughs. It's probably my autism. The speaker-things are too loud (they're so loud I can't understand them), and besides, if I go to Taco Bell in Waukesha, my fiancee and I can order in ASL if we go inside because there is a Deaf employee. Yeah, they really have a Deaf employee, so anybody who's Deaf can order without trouble. They also have people who can take orders in English or Spanish, too, so I can order in any language I know. We never go through drive-through because she can't hear the speaker-thing at all, I can't understand them, and they usually get my order wrong if I use them. With banks, can't you send a note saying you're deaf through the sucking-thingy? I don't need to (I'm a go-inside person everywhere unless the inside is closed--but then I have to interpret for my fiancee if I have to use a drive-through), but I know most tellers I've seen will read it and send notes back and forth if the first one says you're deaf. |

Know what my son was working at McDonald. He was laughed off his ass on the floor.
Deaf Man said on the speaker large **** = large FF Medium cum = med coke two cheese bogger = two cheesburgers one small hairy pussy put alot of period = one small burgers with Kateup My son stared at Deaf man. He wrote a note, "I want to verify with your order". The man stunned because my son can sign language. You said, those orders. He got all embarrass. Other hearing people laughed so hard when they heard the speakers.

Once, I went in Drive-Thru at Burger King, it got long line, I dont care because I have a right same like another people do stop by Drive-Thru. I finally stopped by the window and showed my paper to that man and he said NO, wont take my order because too long line and I was like, Im deaf! And he said no no no, wont take my order then I decided to stay, wont MOVE at all. That man is manager of that Burger King. I dont care until his boss finally show up and I said Im deaf to that man then he yelled at that man horrible until said YOU ARE FIRED! and that manger gulped and that boss man gave me FREE food, everything... I was like whoa, thanks then leaving...
I got the guts to being that way to any resturant if they dont respect me for being deaf

2) I drove up to the drive thru window bypassing the menu and asking for paper and pen and I wrote my order for 2 soft tacos and an encherito. While I was writing the order a man in there got impatient and started yelling at me while pointing to the cars behind me. I signaled I was deaf to him and he pointed to a sign below the window says "no walk-up orders". I pointed to my van and then I signaled to him I cant talk on the microphone at the menu sign and a lady who worked there grabbed the sheet I wrote my order on and signaled me to take another lap and gave me gestres that appeared that they would have the order ready by the time I arived on the window again. 3) I made the lap and it was like #2 all over again and that lady was no where to be found on the premisis and after trying again I decided to quit and I wrote on a piece of paper "my lawyer will call you" and drove off. I already wrote my attorney about this experience and it'll be 9 months from now till the taco bell $tork delivers me a $4,000 baby. Richard |

I've order myself and it wasn't hard, here in NC there is a screen that places your orders to make sure it's correct... it's simple.... but most of the time I order inside since it's easier for me to "make" the person understand me... I speak clearly most of the time, a lot of trouble saying my s's most of the time..... but I'm not going to back down if a person doesn't understand.... I will def stand up for myself... hope everyone does the same!

I am sure that the stupid employee pointed "No Walk-Up Order" that he thought it is just a piece of paper instead of speaking.... |

Hi. I really enjoyed reading the entire thread and I felt very happy and read funny posts about their experiences with being a deaf and had to drive through.
What I'd love to see is a touch screen, with a camera built-in. So if someone walks up to a touch-screen and not driving a car, the employee can detect the man/woman walking, and they will say "Sorry, this is for drive-through only." Then, they will disable the controls so a walk-in person can't use it. If a camera detected a vehicle, then they will enable the touch-screen to take their orders. Thus, I think that a legislature should pass a bill, requiring every fast-food restruants to replace the speaker box with a touch-screen with a built-in camera. But I understand if it's going to be that expensive, but at least the legislature should pass the bill. But that would mean, higher taxes for everyone, which I doult anyone would be able to afford higher taxes.. :p Hmmm...something we have to think about... Employees/Managers who don't treat deaf customers is like saying that all deaf people and hearing people are treated inequally. Deaf people should have the same rights as hearing people, and I, as a hearing impaired, visual impaired, and speech impaired person, 100% respect the deaf community.

The crew member told him that he can not accept the order and told him that he have to walk to lobby to order. Wendy restaurant is in Rio Rancho, NM and near Star Casino. Flyingbird0712 :stupid:

the other day my ex and i went to a mcdonald's (that we don't frequent) and at the box where you put your verbal orders (whatever it's called), there was a tiny sign that said "customers with hearing disablities and soeech disablities, please pull up to the window". that made me smile- because it shows that they're willing to accomodate.
maybe you guys should start writing to your local fast food restaurants and ask for the same thing? |
