Does anyone know anything about the program 'Hear Now'?

I am not even sure if this is the right place to put this question, but I'll give it a shot. I live in KY and there is this program called 'Hear Now' which helps provide hearing aids to people (like me) who can't afford them. The problem is that my husband is a little suspicious that this may be a scam because in order to even apply for the program, you have to pay $200 ($100 for each aid). You have to pay this whether or not you turn out to be eligable and it is not refundable. Now, this wouldn't be such a problem if (a) $200 dollars wasn't so precious right now and (b) if they didn't make such a big deal about the fact that they will not return it. This makes my husband think they will take the money and say we aren't eligable (basically you have to be poor enough to qualify). We are pretty low on financal resources right now and could really use the help paying for these aids. Does anyone know if this is a legit program or not? I'm not saying that they have to qualify everyone...just worried that they collect on the $200 and then claim the applicant is not eligable. Can you help?

you have to pay a fee to see if you are elgible or not ? is this refundable if you are not elgible ? If not then run! run away as fast as you can !

Also what type of hearing aids are they offering ? what the the specific model numbers on the list to be used ? Reason I asked is because on ebay you can see alot of hearing aids for sale for less then 100 bucks and they are not real. A real hearing aid requires a hearing test. Is this what the fee is for ? Sorry there seems to be a lack of information. You realize that some hearing tests are covered by insurance so the fee is not required.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. They will not return the money if you are uneligible. They are offering, apparently, whatever type your doctor says you need. I don't know the model numbers. They are offering to help pay for your hearing aids if you can't...if you qualify...and the fee is for finding out if you qualify. Does that help?

Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Information Services - Assistive Devices for People with Hearing Loss - Hearing Aid Banks - Hear Now Fact Sheet Page

Here is a link from the Kentucky government. It is a legitimate program.
