I had to have an emergency surgical procedure today. The medical clinic did not call the interpreter agency yesterday (as I had requested)...and I called the agency to follow up. There was someone (an advocate) who was supposed to follow up to make sure an interpreter was provided. I arrived this morning - and no interpreter. The clinic called and the agency flatly refused to provide an interpreter based on these reasons: a 7-day notice from a doctor's referral is required and it is the patient's responsibility to call the health insurance to make sure the insurance will pay for the interpreter.

Wtf? I called the advocate services last week to make sure an interpreter will be provided in an event I needed one on an emergency basis because it was unsure when and where the procedure would occur (if at all). The interpreter agency was contacted by this advocate last week and yesterday.

What the hell is wrong with people?

I should note that the procedure they did- I died seven years ago on the table due to complications from the same thing that was happening today. I really needed an interpreter.

The advocacy service failed. And I'm greatly disappointed with the interpreter agency.

I'm mad as hell.

This is approach in money talk or bullshit walk for handling cases like this obviously does not belong to this area where the consequences can be dire. They only want the fundings to be guaranteed put first before safety. Quite disgusting and potentially lethal when this is in the medical emergency situation.

I am sorry you had to go through with this. Luckly, here in rochester hosiptals they have at least one on call at all times due to the number to deafs/hoh in the area and its simply cheaper for them to retain services 24/7 on call.

I don't blame you, and I would most certainly file a complaint.

who in the clinic? Usually patient relations or social work ofice can do that, Business services won't know what to do.

another point to raise though Duray, is there are more tendancy for 'clinics' running more like businesses and when it does it corrupts the human service aspect.
this is the thing we need to stop hearing fuckers taking over us by 'setting up businesses' its just so not on.
sic creating jobs?, sic yes but ONLY for themselves, they see us as customers - with 'potential' but in their eyes 'potential to mean potential to help them get rich.
sorry for such a blunt or even unsophisticated dialogue but thats exactly what it is.

On the whole gotta agree with Grummer (but can I please be hearing without being a hearing fucker?)

Other than that and being mad as hell, deafbajagal, how are you doing?

Hey, there, Berry (who is not a hearing fucker). ;) I'm okay, thanks...still peeved over this. Will meet with the director soon to address what happened.

Outrageous! I'm very sorry that you had such an awful experience. :(

I hope things turn out better for you.

Once in Three Times

I just got a new "family doctor." Terp never showed for first appointment. SECOND APPT terp showed up--because I checked on it MYSELF. Third appt, office called me (WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO THE APPT) and told me there would be no terp (In case I wanted to reschedule....) I kind of like the doctor--she is rarther pleasant--but I am considering getting another one. It ain't worth my time. I identify as "HOH," still use the phone, and text, and use the computer relay. I have been told that I "speak well," etc. However, that fact seems to work against me. I finally figured it out: people think I am Hearing because I "speak well." :laugh2:

I think people think you are hearing because you are hearing.

Last time you checked in with us, you were making progress in your therapy for your other problems and realizing that hearing was not your main problem.

Are you still working on therapy with your psychologist?
