So I gotta go to court in 4 hours
I stood up for myself in the probation department, and now I have to go in front of the judge. They told me to bring a lawyer if I wanted, but I'm just going to represent myself. The whole case is about them providing me with an interpreter.
I'm just gonna rattle off section 504 and ada laws and quote parts that apply to my situation. About them being a government office. That I'm legally disabled and entitled to an interpreter and all that good shit. Any ideas/advice? |

Make sure you have documentation. You can get a copy of the applicable sections of the ADA fromtheir homepage, if you haven't already done so. Be prepared to explain how those sections apply to your situation, and to argue any objections or excuses they may raise. Good luck to you, and let us know how it goes. I'm pulling for you! |

Thanks a lot! Actually, though. I still haven't gave them my letter. Had a problem printing it out, so they're all going to get a copy today. I spoke to my probation officer and basically said my piece. She didn't like it and was all "Well, Mr. Johnson I guess you and I can just go to court tomorrow because I don't think ANYTHING that I say to you is making any difference. I don't think that you think what I have to say is important."
I just wanted to say "Maybe that's because I can't hear you," but I held my tongue

Haha, but Putnam Co. Indiana is probably the most fucking corrupt judicial system i've ever seen. There are pics of the head probation officer drinking with people on probation on NYE. She also transported a minor (under 21) who was on probation, across state lines, and allowed him to consume alcohol in front of her.
And that's just her. The jail? They need their D.O.C license revoked. The courts? A fucking joke. |

I'm just gonna fight it for the remainder of my probation period which is like 6 months or less. I'm not even sure anymore.
They've been giving me all kinds of bullshit they want me to do, but it wasn't part of my plea bargain. That's honestly the only reason I'm doing this shit. I know the laws on my side, so I figured why not? I just made sure to contact the ACLU for... insurance so that way at least an outside party knows about it, so that way if I get locked up, I also get hooked up if ya know what I mean. But yeah, they wanna give me a hard time. I'll return the favor. |
