Jobs
There are so much people who doing hire at the jobs when you are trying to apply for skills/trade, professional, and any kinds of job that does not want deaf or hard of hearing to work with them because they are afarid of getin sued by other company...
i.e. You work as an electrician helper, you use trench to put wire underground and happened to cut the main power turn city to be black out or, you accident damaged stuff, confused doing work wrong and the company will sue electrical company who you work for. thats how they are. even they never had any deaf people working with thier company before or not have deaf relative in thier family. they just think deaf are dumb or shitnizt. I have been discrimmated mostly of the hiring process. which sucks. This need to stop. I have called alot of jobs where on classifeld, empoylment agency, job placement, etc. they use other new thing that said I have already filled (which is bullshit). I have found out that they are still hiring. because they dont want to get sued for treat us like shit. We all need to do something with it seriously. all of my family and friends (not deaf), said well look other job and dont worry about them. I dont like that We all need to do something with this job issues |

Yeah it is sad that we have to use ADA and court to make people
hire deaf people and other disability people. People don't have patience, they don't want to wait for interpreter to sign. It is an evil cruel world.... we can't be nice all time.... gotta demand them to give you the opportunities.. Especially in NYC, it is no use to show your good attitude over there.... I can't even ask a hotel manager for a direction. I am surprise that most of those mean nasty attitude New Yorkers are Democrats

we should talk with nad, ada, lawyers, senates, pres, and whofuckever in a conference meeting how much despreate we have in years without job due to how people have already treats us like shitnizt. I think we should build a site and have look at people's comment how much discrimmated they have... im sure they will put down to work on that issues. hmmm, maybe admin or moderator can create a subcatelog called job discrimmated. have all of peoples comment down in there and send the fourm link to nad, ada, pres, lawyer whofuckever in the email. it will prob gunna work

New 'Safety Issue' discrimination pattern
Theres a new trend in discrimintion going on.
It's called "Safety Issue Pattern" pattern used by companies to state that their 'insurance companies' would not back the company if they hire people who could raise the risks of acidential injuries. Richard Roehm |

Yeah like 9/11 tragic for example, WTC building, if some wheelchaired workers get trapped in a tall building and if the elevators get stuck...
and wheelchair workers can't use stairs... but might have to crawl downstairs or something... but panicked people will step on them. So yeah companies will get sued for that... accidental injury. Right?

yeah, it is suck... if somebody call you to come today for interview
but you can't call at the last minute to get an interpreter. i understand the frustration. but if that happen to me, I would have gone to the job interview anyway.... and just tell the job interviewer to write down the question and I will write back the answer. But if job interviewer won't, or won't hire you, then it is not worth to work for those kind of people anyway.

well? did u get the job?
i know it is difficult not have terps at job interviews. it would give them ideas how they can communicate with you on daily basis like paper/pen or computers. back to hearings' fear or paranoid. it is not about ur deafness because they wouldn't give to hearings who dont have skills either. start somewhere and they will build confident in u with small steps. like i started with desktop supports and eventually i became senior network engineer after years of hard work. my job is scarey for most people because little mistake would cost company hundred thousand bucks an hour. good luck with ur job search. |

Hello, after a while looking at your experience, and discovered your from North Carolina. I went though HELL in North Carolina! Yes, I used to be electrician, and I am DEAF! The former employer there lied and betrayed me 10 years ago. I was ready to sue that employer, but after doing hard research and talked with one of attorney in North Carolina. They told me UNLESS there is contract, or a binding agreement, employer can do whatever they want to regardless! The only thing they are not allowed is mention that clearly state they don't want you because your deaf or whatever. The labor law in North Carolina is the worst in the United states. If you work for a employer in state of North Carolina withOUT any contract or written agreement, your considered as slave, PERIOD! This means employers can do whatever they want, up and including fire for ANY reason they choose to.
As right now, congress is working on making law more clear and loud. They are now focusing on age discrimination. The law jhas not passed yet, but this new bill now enable those older workers sue company for laying them off and keep younger employees, and need not to prove anything in the court. I hope disablity is next. The telephone message you printed out does not clearly state they don't want you because your deaf. I know it sounded like yes, but in the courtroom, it means nothing. So, best to keep going until they open their mouth (Rarely it happens). Also, going though EEOC is pain in the rear! Been there before (Yes with ex employer in North Carolina). That is why I decided to forget Tar Hell, and move back to New Yawk! Finally, don't get me wrong. I am on your side, my friend! Just that our law is so skewed up by clever employer attorneys.

I forgot to mention this, I suggest you to go to law library, usually somewhere in the courthouse. Ask librarian for the law books on employment, it is about three books long, each about 400 pages, and for those who don't have contract with employers, there is only 2 pages for those people!!! That is it! The rest are in favor for unions and employers, I dropped my jaw when I read them with my own eyes. That was the final decision for me to move out of North Carolina.

this is interesting...my hubby is still looking for jobs. he did contact job agencies that left message on his sister's machince..he called them and they told him that they would help, they never did.
he did get phone calls and he called to set up interviews, they tell him job is filled, not qualified or whatever.. he is getting frustrated now...he has worked for a company for 9 yrs and now he gets the cold shoulder.. not giving him an chance.... I know it has to do with deafness...we are frankly scared because our money is going downhill because he is having a hard time finding a job for 4 months now....still not a word.....he did print out conversation with jobs and relay.. not sure if we should send to eoe because so obivious they are discriminated against his deafness...etc etc.. too many to show.. even worse part we live near D.C.,,,,ADA is piece of shit..they are no good even VRs too....and possibily EOE too...ugh. they make me sick.
