How likely is it to receive SSI based on hearing loss?
What are the tests?
Are they in a noisy environment?

You should go to SS office so AD forum isn't place to answer your question.

Yes, you are required to take a hearing test before you can receive SSI and you could be turn down for not deaf enough.

How about trying to get a job if you are still young?

It is extremely difficult to find a job for deaf people without support from VR and they have deal with discrimination in employment, especially in my state.

It may be difficult to get SSI- I know there's a myth that people get denied first time before succeeding.

I have a friend who tried to get SSI on a LOT less (she did have a workplace injury.. 7 years ago) but was denied because there is nothing in her medical records that indicate that she is unable to go back to work. All she has is a bit of a neck problem- she could do help desk or something (her excuse for that one was 'the head set would hurt my neck/head' WTF?).

Another thing to be careful of if you do try to apply is how much assets you have. You may get less if you are married also.

Hearing test-- from an audiologist, also any other documentation that you provide- they'll probably ask for your medical records in general.

As for "get a job", I understand that sentiment but a)I agree with Foxrac and b)there might be other disabilities involved OR the deafness was a recent thing and is severely impacting on their current choice of careers.
