My father had good hearing for years but since he was in the military and oil fields in his younger days, hearing loss was inevitable for him and now it happened.

My father works with computers and is a contractor. The problem is that my father is waiting on his new hearing aids to arrive but the woman doing the contract with my father's contracting company refuses to work with him since he is missing 25% of the conservation over the phone due to his hearing loss worsening. His hearing loss isn't that far off from mine( evere to profound). He is now fearing for his job but I have told him that it seems inexcusable that all involved are refusing to use instant messaging, text, or even meeting transcripts.

He has been asking me for advice related to ADA laws but I basically have told him to contact ADA advocates and a lawyer if necessary.

One question I would ask is in that situation, would the refusual to provide accommdation while waiting for hearing aids to arrive be a violation of the ADA?

Document and document and document, keep the paper trail. And talk with attorney. We are not attorney here and AllDeaf is not a law firm.

And whenever your dad send a letter through the post office he should made a copy for himself and mail to his own house. Keep the letters and DO NOT open them up. The stamp on an envelope made it a legal document .
And made stick a note to the envelope saying what the letter is about so you will not forget. If you decide to court for this the letters will prove your wrote to so and so on such a day. and print all emails

Two things off the top of my head: 1) is there a disability contact at his job? There should be....and they would go to bat for him and quote management the law regarding reasonable accomodations in the work place, and 2) I'd have him contact the VA and ask about an informational meeting with someone regarding work discrimination. When I was at my last job, I discovered my right ear was moving into profound. As it was, I couldn't really hear over the phone unless I had the option to use the speaker phone and my job required significant phone work. There's no excuse for not offering accomodations and no one can get away with that.

I think there have been some very good ideas presented here. But . . . I wonder just what is the best thing to do because this appears to be a customer (the person doing the contract with the company he is with not the company he works) that is objecting to working with him.

Yes that is correct and it makes it one big cluster of a mess.

To everyone else: Thank you and I will pass that on to my father.

Amen to that. I thought it was lawful and manitory that employers would accomodate those who is or have become disabled employees.

Did you read the whole thread? What makes this so difficult is it is NOT his employer that has the problem with giving him accomodations. It is the woman that he would be working with from a company that has a potential contract with the company he works for.
