I have had something bugging me for years and wanted to get an opinion on it. i was born deaf in one ear as a child i couldn't hear and had to read lips. I had a horrible speech impediment due to it. The hearing grew in it was the synapses in the brain and not the ear itself anyhow. being deaf and reading lips i know as an adult have an issue with what is considered a normal vocal volume. i talk softly as people say. this has not been a huge issue I have even acted and sang with no concerns. but years ago i was told it would be a hindrance on getting a higher level job because i cant be heard. this was straight out told to me when i advised of the reason was told oh well get over it. like this is something that would be so easy to do. is this discrimination i am not technically deaf now. it still hinders me at work and I have stayed there for years after this incident and now is the only time I have talked about it. I have people saying oh i cant hear him i don't know hes too quiet and so on. i work hard and i know more than anyone why should this one small thing hinder my progression. this is very disheartening and has been bugging me for years.

thank you for your time. i don't know if anyone can understand this situation.

Yes, I have been passed over because I cant hear, or hear on the phones well. 15 years with the government, and in line to take my supervisors place when he retired, when he did a new guy who I trained got the position... a new guy of 2 years on my 15 years of experience. I must have been a hell of a trainer because he knew nothing about the field when he came on.

wow

i know that can be very frustrating. thanks for replying and sharing your story. its hard to express how you feel in that situation. i don't want to be treated differently or given special treatment but i also don't want this one thing to stop my chances to grow in the company. which it already seems to have happened. I am glad to know i am not alone in this at least. and im sure your a great trainer but you deserved the job.

All I can say is - yup- thats the reality we all been fighting for and it can be very depressing. Only the strong ones evolves and get ahead. Its never seem fair that a hearing person with a IQ of a box of rocks gets ahead of us just because they can hear something and respond to it .

i think it can be lot harder for h/h as people can't be bothered i seen Deaf and H/H get short patiense aswel as hearing..good luck hope you get job you want...it not fair life can suck at times...

i love that similie iq box of rocks, going use that:)
