I have a question that ...is that true if I'm on SSDI and can apply benefits for baby?

the reason why,I asked because I just found out that my gf is pregnant and she is 10 weeks now. I'm on SSDI right now. So, what should I do with benefits for baby? should I apply it now?

i hope anyone can replay me back,
Thank!

I have two answers in different way but I'm liberal so sticking with first.

Liberal: I don't know but it is more resource to discuss with SSA representative and it is possible for your baby to qualify for SSI.

Conservative: Time for you to find a job, stop being lazy and quit to depend on welfare.

SSDI won't hurt you. SSI will hurt you. You will be fine cuz, you're a taxpayer in past for who worked over 10 years.

you don't know nothing about my whole life! I've been working my ass job for 9 years until I got layoff because of damn economy! that's why I got ssdi not ssi! get it?!!!

I encourage you to contact your local SSA and give you the accurate information than asking each of us about it.

EDIT ::: by the way your question, if you are eligible for SSDI and then if the disability determination service aka DDS is the one who make decision to see if you are disabled.Which youare already on SSDI. Then any kid who are under 18 that may be eligible under parent's ssdi because they are minors. However there will be a payee representative issue.

again, contact your local SSA by making an appointment real soon.

yeah, I read on SSA.Gov

check it out Social Security Publications

Your child can get benefits if he or she is your biological child, adopted child or dependent stepchild. (In some cases, your child also could be eligible for benefits on his or her grandparents’ earnings.)

To get benefits, a child must have:

A parent(s) who is disabled or retired and entitled to Social Security benefits; or
A parent who died after having worked long enough in a job where he or she paid Social Security taxes.

The child also must be:

Unmarried;
Younger than age 18;
18-19 years old and a full-time student (no higher than grade 12); or
18 or older and disabled. (The disability must have started before age 22.)

..

I think I'm going to get qualify benefits For baby because I'm disabled.

anyway, thank you

Yes, you can apply for an additional benefit for your child while you are on SSDI. If your gf is also on SSDI, then she can't apply for it if you apply for it. In other words, only one of you can apply for it. I believe that you would have to wait until the baby is born because the baby has to have his/her own SSN and birth certificate in order to qualify for the child benefit.

alright thank you I got it. now I know about more information

Also, don't forget to touch on lawyer when in case if your child get denied for benefits because SSA could playing game with you.

SSA do not play game with claimants. SSA have rules to meet the claimants' criteria. Just clarify this unless claimants saw information that matches then let SSA know because SSA dont know everything about claimants records.

WTF are you talking about? You have a disability all your life or most of your life since you are :deaf:.

simply put - if you are NOT married, and if your GF HAS SS as in I or D its up to GF to get the extra benefits because of a child. FYI - amount stays same no matter how many children.

If you and GF got married and she doesnt have benefits- then you most likely will get the children benefits.

In either case - keep records of money spent. SSA will ask you how you spent the child money in a letter almost yearly.

Being on SS really sucks esp with a child - fyi.

FYI, alot of SSI/SSDI recipients use child benefits to pay for car loan or repairs, vacations, drugs, etc. If SSA asks what they did with those money, they easily give false info.

Lots of them use $$ to feed kids or give kids clothes too from my own witnesses. Guess I do not hang out with those losers who don't give any craps about their kids.
If you witness those people then just report to Dept of children families etc. That is illegal for them to take $$ away from kids' needs.
