I only reprimand when I see the infraction done by my hearing dog, Snickers. I don't do it if she has an accident or vomits -- obviously. A quick pop under the jaw when her lip quivers when children are petting her and she is off duty, then asl word, NO, then continue situation as before. Otherwise, I don't ever believe in physically hitting. Ever!
Another thing, when she first came home with me, when we walked in the door, she was still on leash and I walked her through the entire house. Then, we walked to the kitchen and I placed her food and water dishes down where they would stay. Due to the fact that she is a big dog, I elevate her dishes to her level.
