It does happen for some schools.

When I was a kid, there was only one mainstream school with a good deaf program (with interpreters too). So, all the kids within 10 to 15 miles from the school would be picked up by buses and taken to those schools.

For the elementary school, junior high school, and high school in one city... kids came from that city plus at least 7 other cities.

Now, they've split the program into two cities since there are more kids now and they wanted to make it easier.
