Sunshinelady, when I was reading your post I recalled a novel that fits your favorite sub-genres:
thrillers and
crime novels. That book is
The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum. Understand that I have
not read it (yet) myself but my numerous book-loving friends tell me it is terrific;they tell me that it is one of the best in its league. I own a copy and hope to read it ASAP.
Read the reviews prior to buying it or reserving it at the library. I would get a library copy myself just in case. Ketchum's book may be a novel you enjoy:
