It shouldn't cause any lagging problems. Of course, it might depend on a few things. (For my friend, there weren't any noticeable lags. This was for a 2001 computer in 2003.)

If it was a keylogger that simply logs whatever is typed, then nothing should be noticeable. If a person was really paying attention, then he or she might notice a tiny pause every few minutes... which is the keylogger updating the log file by saving it repeatedly. If the computer was fast enough, then it won't be noticeable.

If it was a keylogger that also takes screenshots every now and then, then there might also be a noticeable pause which is the computer taking a screen shot and creating a screenshot file.

If I was using an old computer with a very new powerful keylogger, there might be noticeable lags when I'm using it. That's why it's important to know what kind of keylogger you're installing and how good your computer is.
